64-bit works just fine for everyday apps; graphics drivers a slower in games though.

I have a 3800 X2 chip, and I don't have a bit of trouble with the games that WILL run with Vista 64-bit. I haven't had experience with the 32-bit Vista, so I can't say that it will run better or worse, but it sure seems fast to me.

My old computer was an Athlon XP 2200 with 1 GB 2700 dual channel ram, a Radeon 9800 Pro, and a 160 GB Ultra ATA drive.

you're old PC is almost exactly what I currently have and am thinking about getting the X2 3800. Do you notice a big improvement?

Vast would be an accurate word...going from 1 processor to essentially 2 at almost twice the rated speed, you can't help but notice the speed improvement.
