Hi, got a copy of Vista 32-Bit Ultimate (not for resale pack from a Microsoft Server '08 Conference), and wonder if there is a download link for the 64-Bit ISO? Or do I have to order it from somewhere?

Thanks :)

I haven't tried using the Key from the Launch, but it's likely it'd work at the Microsoft Vista Alternate Media Site. The Site only accepts Retail-like keys, and the Keys from the launch event look like Retail keys.

Microsoft doesn't host any online Vista 64-bit images except on the Subscription sites like MSDN and TechNet Plus.

I got the 64bit media this way for the copy of Business that I got from the NFR Power Together program.

Try what Rebatemonger says .. go to his link .. it will ask for your PID ... if is not an OEM copy of Vista you will be able to order
the 64 bit dvd for a few dollars.

I found a 64-bit ISO (non-cracked or anything) from isohunt.com. Download it, burn it, install it (using your key), and you're done. Sometimes you have to call some MS phone number to activate it, but it will work (that may just be when you use the key found on a computer, if bought in a store).

It's $10. And, no, I believe that Microsoft doesn't consider copying their disk and mailing it to a stranger to be within their EULA. Jeez...it's ten bucks. I suggest spending it and having an orginal pressed DVD, rather than a burned copy.

I don't believe that it matter much where you acquire the install media, so long as you have a legitimate, valid license/key.

I agree ... a factory made cd/dvd is a much better choice than a burn it yourself.
Among other things, you are certain it was not tampered with and a pressed cd/dvd
will in the long run, be more reliable if it needs to be used a few years or so from now.
MS shouldn't care about users duplicating the disc, as long as the License code is
not included with it. The person acquiring media in that way, would still need a Legit
Paid for license to be fully legal.

If you pay about $10 and get the DVD from Microsoft, you will get SP1.

If you download an ISO, you may get a pre-SP1.

well i can assure you it is not tampered with. it is factory retail DVD that i can slipstream SP1 into for him. and as for it being more reliable over the long run, installing an OS a few times is not going to affect the wear that much over a couple of years. he could even make his own backup once he got it.

Here's a Vista EULA:

"10. BACKUP COPY. You may make one backup copy of the media. You may use it only to reinstall the software."

My personal OPINION is that Microsoft should make all of their software images downloadable. They already do it for their subscription services (MSDN, TechNet Plus). It'd make my life MUCH easier. But that hasn't happened yet. Making a copy of a Vista Install DVD and mailing it to a stranger definitely violates the EULA.

Yeah, this license is becoming obsolete and needs to change. But I've had Microsoft's V.P. for Partner Relations tell me that if I use my personal XP Install CD to re-install XP on a client's computer (since the client has lost his/her disk), then I'm a pirate. The client is expected to acquire his/her own "legal" disk, either from Microsoft or from the system builder or by buying a new software license.

I would not bother slipstreaming SP1 into Vista.
It is different than XP.
The only way I am aware of slipstreaming Vista is through Vlite.

- Vlite leaves the SP1 cleanup to the user.
- Vlite only slipstreams one version. So, your Vista DVD ends up being only Business, or whatever version you choose, while the original DVD and the official SP1 DVD contain all versions.
- Vlite removes the repair option from the DVD. So, if you some day need to do a repair install, you will need your original pre-SP1 DVD.

I know those are only small inconveniences. But, I don't want them just to save $10.

judging by the replies here i am guessing that most of you have good paying jobs? $10 is $10, if it is that meaningless to you why not send some my way???

I never said $10 was meaningless.

But, if some day I need to make a repair install and my DVD does not have that option, or if I want to try a different version and my DVD does not have it, it may cost me more than $10 to solve it then.
