I ran a beta on the last version and can honestly say it was complete JUNK. Unless I have to, I have no intention in installing it....it's just a giant virus.

Way to FUD with nothing to back it up, congrats troll!

The Vista betas do require a bit of homework, especially as to lan drivers and sw that is compatible, and the ATI issues etc.
In fact, it is a good evaluator as to the users competence in running a non load and run O/S.
Those that say it works great, very fast, and love it are letting you know they are hip to keeping their stuff in top shape.
Those that call it crap are just tacitly revealing to others that they still have more to learn as a geek.
I have seen this on every forum, that Vista is just a mirror back to the user.

Are you a real geek, or meek and weak??

Hope that helps.
Enjoy!!

hmmm, my ubuntu install doesn't have any internet connection problems, even though it does anything Vista can do. I guess I must be weak then 🙁

Installed 5728 as an upgrade over 5600 rc1. It took only 50 minutes to install. 3dmark 06 scores up with this version fast than rc1 and xp.

Seems to run well for general use. Looks like MS have done mainly minor fixes and performance tuning on this build. 🙂

I downloaded 75% over the night, but it is now stuck. I'm using Getright, but it is simply not coming anymore? Too many users perhaps?

Another observation after using this build for a day or so - memory usage seems to be lower on my machine (without sacrificing speed). RC1 would always use about 1.05GB with only a few things open (basically just my startup stuff; MySQL, Apache, IM programs, Firefox, etc.)...5728 seems to idle closer to 750MB usage (sometimes even a little lower) with the same things running. Glad to see that they're doing a lot of work on performance optimization. (For reference, I have 2GB of RAM.)

are they every going to start giving out pins again to new people?? I didn't sign up for the early beta's so I don't have a pin. I downloaded 5728, but can't really use it.....

You should still be able to request an RC1 key here (link taken from another thread) - I've already received the max (two keys) so I can't check if it's still working. But they should still be handing out keys to the public.

Does this work with MS Virtual PC 2004 or VMWare Workstation? I tried to install this on Virtual PC 2004 and it seems to freeze it during the 'Analyzing your systems performance' or whatever comes after it asks for a user and computer name.

I know it wont work fully... no areo, no sound.. thats fine. I just want to get familiar with it. I have no desire to blow away my stable XP MCE install just to test Vista out.

I've installed it on the latest VMWare Workstation version released 8/10/06, and it is working rather well. I got a blue screen when shutting down and it compalined about some USB device. Other than that, no problems. I'm surprised it is running this well in a VMWare session. It only ranked my VMWare system as a 1 though. 🙁

I just got my PIN the other day, so they are still giving away eval copies.

I'm on RC1 5600, is 5728 worth upgrading. 5600 wouldnt install on my VMware pc, so dual booting. Had issues with limited connectivity on Marval LAN drivers, however Nvidia LAN okay.

Audigy 2 ZS drivers from Creative stop working 5/11/06, whats with that?

Noticed with RC1, it does a s h i t load in the background, very resourse hungry, maybe 5728 will be better?
