did notice under power management there was a selection for performance, balanced, and power saving. I think that's new as I don't remember it in XP Pro.
Yes, this is new. The entire power management UI was re-written. The three options you saw are the basic settings, if you click advanced, you can customize a whole mess of power settings.

For the five unknowns, have you run automatic updates yet? There are a lot of drivers available through AU now.

Edit - oh, and I went ahead and modified the device path to point to my XP Pnp path, just in case it might use them (Chipset inf is there for XP). No joy.
 
Yeah, sorry. Driver support is spotty. It's much better than it was a couple of months ago, but there's a way to go. But the hardware vendors are working on it (at least, a lot of them are).
