the little lady and i are planning to be up there from the 9th to the 15th (tentatively). looking for recommendations on what to do, where to go, places to eat, and where to stay?

i remember going to some really, really big asian mall that had a crapload of little shops and boutiques in it. i'm personally looking for Chinese groceries and really good restaurants, especially places w/ some good Dim Sum. there are supposedly 4 other Chinatowns aside from the one in downtown, Toronto; where are they? are any of them worth going to?

she's looking for tourist-type and womany things to see/do. any good shopping malls other than Eaton Centre?

also wondering, where should we stay? IN downtown, Toronto? perhaps Markham or Mississagua?

also... what's the best way to get around? we'll be driving up there from Chicago and we will have our car, but are we better off using public transportation to get around?

thx in advance... 🙂

Argh... if it wasn't winter, I'd recommend going to Paramount Canada's Wonderland... hehehe... great fun!!!
Other than that, check out the CN tower and plan a dinner at the rotating restaurant ! LOL (I think that's where it is)...

Also, when I go there, I stay at a friend's in Missisagua... it's a nice place to stay... and we use our car to go around...

Have fun up there !!!

There is Pacific Mall on the corner of Steeles and Kennedy in Markham (right on the edge of Scarborough). There are some restaurants that serve dim sum, but I don't have any in particular to recommend. This area is about a 20 minute drive north on the Don Valley Parkway from the CN tower assuming the traffic is clear. A car is recommended here.

I would rather walk in downtown Toronto.

Forget the woman stuff. GO SEE A LEAFS GAME!!! And try to catch the Sabres play um so you can watch the Sabres whoop on them. 🙂

actually, she'd love to see a Leaf's game. thx for the idea... 🙂

Yup, Pacific Mall at Steeles and Kennedy is a great place to walk around - although the Heritage Town within isn't really authentic. 🙂 Celestial Court (an outside restaurant close to Pacific and Market Village - Market Village is also at Steeles and Kennedy, but farther inward. The restaurant is inside the same plaza as the other two 'malls'.) is a really good place to eat dimsum, if you don't mind paying roughly ~$50-60 CDN for three hungry males.

I know two Chinatowns off the top of my head because I accompanied my mom there when I was young. Broadview & Gerrard (southern part of Toronto, might be in East York) is the heart of one, and the other is somewhere around Spadina and some other street. Do NOT go walking around those area. Filthy places, I must say.
