The creep-factor of this place is off the charts. The tour guide was very informative, though there were so many places we couldn't see- the hole, the warden's quarters, execution chamber, etc.

We lived in New Martinsville, WV, about 25 miles south of Moundsville where the prison is located. It was a good place to take visiting relatives. It's just a few miles south of Wheeling and I-70.

OP,
Do they still have "Old Sparky", the electric chair, on display?

Just across the street from the prison is the Grave Creek Indian Burial Mound and museum. http://www.wvculture.org/museum/GraveCreekmod.html

If you have time also check out the Marx Toy Museum in Moundsville. Marx operated a large toy factory in Glen Dale, WV, just north of Moundsville. http://www.marxtoymuseum.com/index.htm

I'm working in New Martinsville as we speak 😉.

The chair is still there, in the lobby. Including the original mask, shackles, etc.

I wanted to check out the Mound but it was closed by the time I was done w/ the prison.
