So instead of 3 hour traffic jams we can have 6 hour ones? Nice.
Not if you visit the weekend previous to the free ones... 😀Originally posted by: beat mania

so, waiving an up to $25 dollar fee will thoroughly entice cash-strapped families to visit the park, as if the 5 or more hour travel wasn't holding them back.
I've never been to a national park in my life. I don't think there are any by me. 🙁 Some nice places, but all state or local.

Why bother rewarding a nation of whiners.

Nice bit of enticement to get the owners to actually visit their parks.
I don't pay to visit any of the National or Kahleeforneeya parks, recreation areas, etc. My blue "preferred parking pass" got me a lifetime free pass.😀
We're heading to either Yosemite or Sequoia/Kings Canyon within a few days...nice living so close that I can make either one a day trip.

I have a reservation at Yosemite for August, but we probably won't make it because the wife ran out of PTO (sick).
Maybe next year. 🙁

Our national park system is probably some of the best spending we do as a government (assuming it isn't filled with waste and fraud)
Been to four in the last year and they were all beautiful (although I suggest skipping Everglades during dry season)

My sister is disabled and I remember from our summer vacations that we didn't have to pay to get in. It was also nice how you had access to where the shuttle buses go that are normally closed to public traffic. The Grand Canyon and it's outer rim loop was a good example of that.

Yep, the blue preferred parking pass lets me drive to lots of places that the general public can't. We took the Expedition up the gravel path to the Medicine Wheel in Wyoming, we've driven on a few closed roads in Yosemite as well.
If I have to walk much farther than 100 yards...I can't get there anymore.
Maybe they'll pave some of the hiking trails for me...or I'll have to file an ADA complaint for refusing to provide me with access...😛
