Visiontek ti4200 SE ?? Special Edition (**UPDATE**)

Anyone heard of some special edition for the 4200? I saw one today, from Visiontek.

I just picked one up from walmart just for comparison. Not only does it not have a DVI connector, but it does NOT use the new BGA memory chips, and the hsf is NOT the same as the one where is blows air out thru the sides. It looks more like a Blue Orb, dead serious. The memory chips are just standard TSOP packages (Samsung 4ns). This is not worth $200 and i'm sure gonna return it .... soon

hehehh, nevermind, no big deal. The Ti4200 SE model just doesn't have the DVI connector. i saw it at an old walmart to my amazement

How much $ was it? Are you sure it was a Ti4200? Did it have 128mb or 64mb? Sorry to ask all these questions, but I'm looking for a reasonably priced Ti4200 (especially a Visiontek). I'm sick of all the overpriced Ti4200's out there. People are better off buying the 4400 until the prices of the 4200 come back to reality.

It was a Visiontek Ti4200 SE with 128mb, just w/o DVI connector. Price was $199 at walmart. I'd wait, there's bound to be good video card sales around 4th of july.

You wanna see overpriced?? Take a look at retail Ti500's!! They still won't come down below $300 !

You can find a GF 4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR for around $200, with DVI. Somewhere in the Hot Deals forum. It's not a well known brand name though.

$199 seems to be just normal price to me. I actually want the DVI connector for a future upgrade as well. What i'm actually waiting for is for the Ti500 to come WAY down from $300+ still.

Someone started a thread on this at the Hot Deals forum. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but it $200 supposed to be a good deal on this 4200? Maybe i'm more of the conservative type (cheap ), but i'm looking for Ti200 cards that should be tanking right now.

$199 is relatively cheap for the Visiontek card (or any 128mb 4200 right now). With all the price gougeing going on at small retailers, I guess Walmart doesn't see their opportunity. Either that, or they're very very nice.

The Wal-Mart store in my area still have the S3 Virge 4MB video card in stock, for $85.

This is BS. I've been to all five WalMarts in my town and none of them have these cards (yet). In fact, these people don't even know what a video card is when I ask about them. One guy tried to sell me a 3-year old ATI Wonder 16mb card saying "it's the best card on the market". I almost threw up on him.....

I think it's becoming my destiny to NOT have one of these cards. I'm going to crack up soon if I can't find a Ti4200 128mb for $199 (suggested retail price). I'm one day away from ordering the frickin' Ti4400.

I'm wondering if anyone knows the difference between the Visiontek ti4200's that come in a blue retail box and the one in a yellow retail box??? Is the yellow box the special edition?
Both boxes show each having 128MB DDR.


EDIT: woops...nm...yellow box is the SE version. Blue box has VGA, DVI and TV-Out adapters.

My local Wal Mart also has the Visiontek ti4200. I never noticed the special edition part on the box though.

I picked up a VisionTek Ti4200 128 meg card at BestBuy over the weekend for $179. It does 310/560 no problem with stock cooling. Great card.

I think it's only just been released. It's the only 4200 (Asus 4200 Deluxe version, same model number as the unit with the 4 ns RAM) with 3.3 ns BGA memory i've seen, and I've been looking. I'm in Ottawa, Canada, and we won't see those puppies around here for at least a month. What makes me wonder, is how can they price it higher without making it worthwhile to just get a 4400 with the same RAM and the more layers on the circuit card, with all those extra caps for high speed stability?

Weird piece of marketing. I read somewhere that Nvidia used to get their knickers in a twist when some of the manufacturers (I think Innotech was one) started sticking higher spec RAM on boards with lower grade GF2 or GF3 GPUs, and since the memory speed was king on those for performance, it started to lowball the more expensive units.
