FWIW Newegg has four different brands of 3870 x2 in stock for $250. However, Micro Center totally spanked them for the single GPU cards! Newegg is $230-250 for those.

Don't forget the $224 EVGA 8800GT at Micro Center.

It's a good time for buying higher end video cards right now!

For a casual gamer would the extra $32 be worth spending on a video card, or am I as well off putting it toward the rest of the system?

Wondering samething...will the 3870 play all the current games well (Other than the famed Crysis)?

Depends what resolution you run imo as every bit of performance is important with current games. At higher resolutions like 1680 or higher, there's really nothing else you can do to increase performance elsewhere with $32, except maybe put that towards a better CPU/GPU cooler in order to OC. Personally I tend to put as much as I can into actual hardware (more transistors, faster hardware etc.) if the price is still reasonably close between products.

I tried to buy the HD3870 from Microcenter, and everythinbg seemed to go through fine. Then I received an email saying they were out stock and cannot be backordered, so they cancelled my order.

I too had my order cancelled. Called them up with a bunch of SKUs and they seem to be totally OOS on all ATI / Radeon products whereas most of their nVidia products are available.

Good prices on the 8800GT's but I refuse to sacrifice image quality for extra fps ...

Visiontek has a lifetime warranty, Diamond only 1 year. Diamond used to be a big time player in vid cards, now it's just a "name" resurrected by who knows (?).

Good luck finding any ATI card via Micro Center, the only way would be you get lucky and find a store with one in stock ...

Isn't Diamond now owned by Best Data (old school modem company for way back)?

I plan to use the 3870 in my SFF LAN gaming rig, and I'd rather have the external exhaust.

Hmm, I got two backorder notices, but no cancellation. In fact I had expected these to be backordered because of what it said next to the order button on availability.

I thought they both had only 1 year?

Don't they all come out of the same factory in China?

I'd get the Visiontek over the Diamond anyday, better warranty, cheaper, and generally better quality cards.

Good lord, let's hope not. BD is/was a horrid company. A plague on them, just for helping to propagate software modems, if for no other reason ...

How does this card rank against the 219$ 8800GT... I only play CSS and TF2. Would I be better off with the 8800 or the 3870? I have a radeon X1900XTX right now that I do like but kinda bored and want to upgrade.

Thanks!

if you have the money get the 8800GT, it is superior in many catagories and will last longer unelss you are interested in the hybrid crossfire or want a quiet video card then you should go with the HD3870

I don't like the fact that the 8800GT @ Micro Center doesn't ship for 5 - 7 business days...To hell with that...NewEgg usually ships next day...Sure, the card's more expensive, but you know you'll receive your product & you know when...

Now if I walk into that Micro Center & they have them on the shelf for $220, that's a different story...There's one in Santa Clara...Might have to check it out...

The Visiontek card has been pulled from their web site as of early this morning.

The Diamond 3870 is still available.
