Visiontek GTS/V, WarcraftIII woes

I recently upgraded to a Visiontek GeForce2 GTS/V from a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI. The upgrade was fantastic--I instantly doubled (almost tripled) my performace!

However, Warcraft3 crashes on me--blue screen. It has happened during actual gameplay--and while just sitting at the "find a game" screen (so no 3D effects going on, I believe). But...get this--it never happens when I am playing single player missions--it only happens when on Bnet. The error I get is related to nv4_disp.dll.

I have tried several different driver revisions, but after four or five bluescreens, decided to see what Blizzard says about supporing GeForce2...Blizzard Video Support

Supported video hardware: _____________Drivers site: _______Tested driver version: __________Known issues & solutions:
GeForce 2 (GTS / Pro / MX-200 / MX-400) _____Nvidia ________________28.32

so--they do support the card, and they state the drivers that they "officially support"

Using logic, I went out and grabbed the 28.32 drivers, installed them, and had my first bluescreen--sitting at the "find a game" screen!!!

My system specs:

EDIT: Windows 2000, SP2
MSI K7T Turbo (latest BIOS)
AMD Duron 900@1000
Visiontek GeForce2 GTS/V (not overclocked)
SB Live! Value
Linksys NIC (LNE100TX)
Maxtor, WD storage ~100GB

Has anyone else had issues with WarcraftIII crashing like this?

I'm thinking that it's a bad video card. I just ordered it in the past week from Newegg.com.

Might have to RMA the card--anyone ever RMAd something to Newegg? How did it go?

Thanks for your help--if I'm missing some crucial piece of information, let me know and I'll add it.

Cheers,

i've got a friend who is having the same problem, he hasn't been able to fix it yet and he is assuming he will have to wait for a patch to fix it :(

So is it a Blizzard issue or an nVidia issue?

It somewhat frosts me (heh) that I get this new, shiny video card and buy a great new game....and have problems.

And knowing that the popularity of nVidia cards is rather high, there SHOULD be quite a few people out there playing WarcraftIII on a GeForce2/3 that are running into this issue.

I am running a Oced GF3 and having no problems with Warcraft 3. 29.42 Drivers

Do you have the AGP fix for 2000/XP? 4-in-1s installed ?

There is some sort of patch for the infinite loop error for nvidia cards on AMD platforms. It appears to only effect windows XP. Not sure if 2k is an issue.

heh heh heh...heard some not-so-great things about sp3....

i may NOT have the "latest" via 4-in-1 drivers...researching that, now....

the version i installed had the filename: VIA_4IN1_V440V(a)P3.zip

so i'm using a not-so-great alpha version.......

i noticed at VIA Hardware that there is a 4.39 beta available--I have an idea that the beta might be a little more stable than the alpha that i'm using.

4.39 Beta - Latest Beta 4-in-1 Driver - This driver addresses some issues with the previous release and incorporates drivers and support for current and future chipsets.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Can I install the 4.39b drivers over the newer 4.40a drivers? Kind of like a manual rollback?

You can check here for an article on the Infinite Loop issue.

It also lists some possible solutions.

Good luck.

i suggest u uninstall the 4.40a first before you install the 4.39b. i think you have an option to remove the drivers if you run setup again.
