I bought a retail PCI version of the VisionTek GF4-MX420 to put it in an older Pentium TX chipset system and got a black screen. The motherboard is made by ACER and is an AP5T. I removed all other cards but still no good. Is this system PCI 2.1 complient?

Anybody have any Ideas... TIA, Olias

Also should add that the system only has a 200 watt PS. VisionTec recommends 250 watts for GeForce2 based cards and 300 watts for GeForce3 cards. Could this requirment be less for the GeForce4 due to the lower power consumption from the .13 die shrink?

No. Intel abandoned socket-7 after the TX chipset. It was only AMD that drove motherboard makers to include features like this and if I remember correctly, EPoX was one of the better ones.

This question is actually for a buddy of mine. I think he will end up selling the old system for a few bux and buy a starter Athlon system.

Thanks Mingon :)

Its always a good thing to try a better power supply. I don't know how I can help you on this but the old Pentiums aren't exactly designed for newer cards such as the Geforce 4 MX. If you/or your friend can still return the card, then do it. I would prefer you get something cheaper.
(I also think that the orginal Intel Pentiums, Pentium PRO, and DX chipsets were something like PCI 1.1 complient. I suppose your screen isn't booting up due to the fact that the PCI slot just doesn't have enough bandwidth for the MX 420.
