Here's the LINK.
Shipping to Virginia came out to $6.91 for a total of $35.91. Pretty good for a second box or for relatives who wouldn't know what they were missing by not having the latest and greatest.

If I recall, performance wise, I think the original Geforce was comparable to the Geforce2MX/MX400, which in turn was quite a bit slower than the Geforce2 GTS-V. I have both an MX and the GTS-V, and there is a significant difference in overall performance there.

umm the GTS-V would probably beat the CRAP out of 256 DDR. But it's still a very good card for a 2nd box. I think it would run Q3 fine, but anything else more complicated like RtCW or MOHAA would be WAY beyond it's capabilit.

Here's some results from a wonderful set of benchmarks Tom's Hardware put out a few months back comparing a crapload of video cards:

The tests were run on the following system configuration:

Asus A7V266-E
AMX AthlonXP 2000+
256MB PC-266 CL2 (2x128)
Windows XP Pro
DirectX 8.1

Aquanox benchmark 1024x768 32-bit

TNT2 Ultra = 12.6 FPS
GeForce 256 SDR = 15.6 FPS
GeForce 256 DDR = 26.4 FPS
GeForce2 MX200 = 14.7 FPS
GeForce2 MX400 = 18.1 FPS
ATI Radeon 32mb DDR = 23.1 FPS
GeForce2 GTS = 31.5 FPS
GeForce2 Ultra = 41.5 FPS
GeForce3 Ti200 = 42.1 FPS
GeForce4 MX440 = 31.4 FPS
GeForce4 MX460 = 38.3 FPS
ATI Radeon 8500 = 49.1 FPS
GeForce4 Ti4200 = 66.1 FPS
GeForce4 Ti4600 = 82.9 FPS

Max Payne 1024x768 32-bit

TNT2 Ultra = 22.5 FPS
GeForce256 SDR = 21.4
GeForce256 DDR = 31.1
GeForce2 MX200 = 19.2
GeForce2 MX400 = 22.8
ATI Radeon 32mb DDR = 31.9
GeForce2 GTS = 38.2
GeForce2 Ultra = 54.7
GeForce3 Ti200 = 69.4
GeForce4 MX440 = 58.7
GeForce4 MX460 = 71.8
ATI Radeon 8500 = 77.5
GeForce4 Ti4200 = 101.1
GeForce4 Ti4600 = 124.5

Quake 3 Arena v1.17 Demo001 OpenGL 1024x768 32-bit

TNT2 Ultra = 28.2 FPS
GeForce256 SDR = 57.1
GeForce256 DDR = 74.0
GeForce2 MX200 = 49.5
GeForce2 MX400 = 59.8
ATI Radeon 32mb DDR = 72.1
GeForce2 GTS = 102.7
GeForce2 Ultra = 135.5
GeForce3 Ti200 = 158.2
GeForce4 MX440 = 148.2
GeForce4 MX460 = 169.2
ATI Radeon 8500 = 196.5
GeForce4 Ti4200 = 199.7
GeForce4 Ti4600 = 219.5

3DMark 2001 DirectX 8 1024x768 32-bit

TNT2 Ultra = 2032
GeForce256 SDR = 2010
GeForce256 DDR = 3503
GeForce2 MX200 = 2380
GeForce2 MX400 = 2869
ATI Radeon 32mb DDR = 3347
GeForce2 GTS = 4312
GeForce2 Ultra = 5256
GeForce3 Ti200 = 6572
GeForce4 MX440 = 5653
GeForce4 MX460 = 6139
ATI Radeon 8500 = 8414
GeForce4 Ti4200 = 8882
GeForce4 Ti4600 = 9889

Just a reminder: The GTS-V would run at 175mhz core/286mhz mem out of the box versus 200mhz core/333 mhz mem of the full GTS card. 99% of them will overclock to regular GTS speed however.

Thats DVI. So if I understand I can't connect this to my VGA adaptor type monitor?

Excellent card; it's what I'm running now! Thought I got an excellent deal when it was $45 from Compgeeks.

PS. Bagger: thanks for listing the benchmarks!

JayR: Card has outputs for DVI, VGA, and S-Video. You can certainly use the card with your standard analog monitor.

[edit] Ouch, I just looked at the photo, and I don't see an analog out connector (but for that matter, I don't see the TV-out either), hard to tell from that little photo. Worst case scenario, you could always use a DVI -> VGA adapter.

I really would like the DVI for my LCD....but don't wanna downgrade to this card from my already not cutting edge GTS-V....tempting price.

I think a better deal is the OEM Radeon 7500le 64MB DDR with DVI/s-vid/vga at Newegg for $59 SHIPPED. $20 more you get a faster card, TV-out res up to 1024x768, higher overclockabilty, much nicer image quality, and great customer service of Newegg.

Can someone reccomend a video card that is good but inexpensive and has the best TV-out resolution? Speed is not a big deal to me, since I don't do much gaming; I'm looking for a card that I can watch divx on my TV. Thnx...:)

no thread crap please. if u think it's such a great deal, start a thread about it. tv-out resolution of 1024x768 is really just good on paper. even at tv-out resolutions of 800x600... text is not even close to clear. for watching movies, who needs anything higher then 800x600? u won't be able to tell the difference. btw, the gts-v does not have tv-out & dvi out... so i think the price is pretty good.

Mmmmh, I doubt that the GTS-V is much faster than the old GF DDR, because the GTS-V's memory is clocked at 143 MHz (286 DDR) while the GF DDR's has 150MHz (300 DDR) memory. The GTS-V does have twice the texturing units per rendering pipe and is clocked at 175 vs. the GF DDR's 120, but unless the resolution is really low or the game played is making intensive use of T&L, memory bandwidth is king.

Nvidia has come a long way since the original GeForce 256 DDR.
The newer chips, such as used in GF2/3, and Ti, require much less power to run than the old 256 DDR.
The GF 256 DDR was a power hog, and requires a hefty power supply to work correctly.
This power requirement also means the 256 DDR generates a lot of heat, so if you are running hot already, this won't help.

It is true that the .22 GF256 chip runs hot and consumes quite a bit of power, but there's nothing exceptional. I used to have one (@150/333) powered by a 250w generic P/S, no problems at all. The original HSF combo was sufficient until the fan started to rattle.

BTW, I saw that Radeon 7500 LE on newegg, it says "64bit." I can't think of anything on that card that could be 64bit except the memory interface. Think twice before ordering any Radeon xxxx LE's, you won't know what you're getting until you actually receive it.

If I were to spend ~$60 for a videocard right now, a GF2Ti would appear to be the much better choice.
