boy does things look good for ATi right now: 9700 looking to blow away everything and take performance crown, nvidia supposedly having delays with their nv30, visiontek, nvidia's biggest graphic card manufacturer goes down...

I see ATi gaining a LOT of market share withing the next few months as someone else mentioned.

Creative does not make Nvidia cards anymore. Now that they took over 3D Labs, they will be releasing cards on the P10, not Nvidia's chips.

Well, if EVER there was a time for ATI to Carpe Diem, this is it...hopefully this time, not-ready-for-market hardware and substanard drivers won't hold them back.

You are sadly misinformed. Visiontek was largest supplier in retail market, which accounts for 8% of Nvidia sales. PNY and others will pick up where Visiontek left off.
MSI and Asus both by far the largest suppliers of Nvidia cards for major OEMs.

As long as there is OEM demand for Nvidia cards, loss of one manufacturer means very little. Gigabyte customers switched to Leadtek and MSI when Gigabyte switched to ATI boards.

i think where this has real implications is in the OEM market. if visiontek does indeed make cards for dell, gateway, etc., as someone suggested, then someones got a real problem on their hands. seems like ATi isnt real involved in the oem market, and it seems unlikely that anyone could ramp up production fast enough to churn out the mass quanitities of vid cards that the holiday oem season will require. i think i'm gonna look in the best buy ad the week before christmas and see a bunch of p4's with integrated video....

Enh, I don't think Nvidia is all that screwed. In this time of recession I'm willing to bet a lot of these nvidia card manufacturers only have 1 or 2 manufacturing shifts running. For most of them if they get a sudden surge in demand all they need to do is order some more parts and another half or full shift. Besides if they need employees the people from visiontek are for hire. :/

WTF was up with that? Has corporate America taken a complete leave of their senses?😕Or just another example of corporate greed where the "suits"screw the investers and the loyal, hard working employees that depended on them to run the company in an effecient and honest fashion?:|

All right, I'll bet you dollars-to-doughnuts that you'll see more Radeon 9000 cards in the next few months than you could shake a stick at, while nVidia cards start becoming harder to find until other OEM's like ACER can step up production to fill the gap.
Especially since the RV250 chip is so integrated... almost a whole video card on a single chip. (I'd like to see THAT imbedded on a motherboard! OEM's are lovin' this easy-to-produce card that's so inexpensive yet performs like a champ.)

nVidia will survive just fine, don't get me wrong. The stocks will slump a bit (good time to buy) and likely bounce back after the NV30 *IF* they can pull it off. With 10% yeilds, we'll see.

Visiontek sinking wont effect NVIDIA at all. Everyone remember Elsa? they used to be king of the hill til they went down in flames. Yet half of you probably went "wow i remember them" when you read Elsa.

I believe that Visiontek sinking isnt gonna hurt card supply, someone else will just pick up the slack.

MSI, Evga, Chaintech, PNY, Aopen, Albatron, Powercolor, Leadtek, Apollo, Gainward, Asus, Abit, and more are still supplying all the Geforce 4s we will ever need, and im sure wont argue about shipping more out because one OEM sank.

Visiontek is the largest supplier of Nvidia cards in Noth America, not the world, that belongs to MSI. MSI also is the provider of Nvidia reference cards to Dell and Gateway. If MSI went down, the Nvidia would be in trouble, however now they just have to ramp production more, which isn't to hard to do with the perception of today's economy.
