i doubt that. why would they sell it if they were losing money. this isn't a console maker that makes money from software.

Because I have a buddy at BB and he looked it up. Employee cost was $392.
BB sells to employess at cost +5%.

its not that noisy... that is way over hyped up. Its less noisy than a 7900GT your using which as noisy as X1800XT stock cooler. Power consumption is that too bad in some cases the 2900XT can beat up a 8800GTX and alot of driver problem were solved with the latest update and also alot DX10 title will get tweaked next updated.

. . . how do you know? i thought you had GTX SLI :p
System Requirements Intel® Pentium® 4, AMD Athlon? 64 or compatible; 500-watt power supply (750-watt for CrossFire configuration)
Additional System Requirements Two 6-pin power cables or one 6-pin and one 8-pin power cable (8-pin cable required for Overdrive)
and 750w is probably too low for HD2900xt xfire ... heck, my OCZ 850w is considered marginal

ANYWAY, thanks OP!

i got a confirmation from BB ... less than $350 [inc CA tax] shipped ...
great deal over just yesterday when they were $100 more

just a 'heads up' .. so you KNOW ... AMD's partners have a faster version of this card ... the 1GB HD2900xt with a faster core . . . available now in Canada and Australia ... soon here

Best Buy lies to their employees so they can make profit off them as well. And the cost probably does not include any rebates that AMD might have offered them to move inventory.

correct- bestbuy cost is not REALLY the cards cost to bestbuy.
good price regardless (although some might rather have a 640meg 8800GTS for close to $300AR Ive seen posted elsewhere

HAHA, BB took their "true" employee cost away years ago. Just like CC a well. I worked for both at the time when they did it. Have your friend look up the price of a USB cord. About 9 years ago, BB sold those $20+ dollar USB cords to employee's for $1.40. After that, they changed it to make more money off employee's and other companies followed suit. The employee cost on those cables are now something like $16 bucks. BB isn't losing any money on these cards, trust me.

Nice find to someone looking to buy the 2900's right now.Personally, I thought that ATI would hit the market with these cards a bit cheaper than this offering. If they had released these at $300* per unit, suggested retail cost, and then have retaillers have sales to $250 ish, I would definately have bought one. As it is, I'll wait.

Wow, really? I didnt have any hope for this card. This makes me happy:D

So a lot of the problems were with the drivers? Are there any new benchies that show this improvement?

BTW, how is bestbuy doing with that lawsuit. Last thing I remember seeing is that the lawyer faked some papers or something.

Nah, they make you buy a $150 "Monster" HDMI cable to go with it. Problem solved.

Noise, power and heat has kept me away from ATI (formerly) for 3 years now and counting...
Just wondering how the new 2900 compares to my new 8800GTS (not yet installed) in those categories I just mentioned?

2900XT performs the same as an 8800GTS with I believe more potential for the future. Fan is not an issue at all. I have had 2 8800GTS's and now one 2900XT and fan noise was identical between them.

It's probably comparable. While one or the other might "beat" the other in tests, in the real world, I doubt a well running card (as in no driver issues, overheating etc) will stand out a ton. They are both cards in the same "class". IMO.

Personally, I'm going to wait until these come down another hundred dollars. I can't justify spending 3 times as much for a video card as I spend for my processor/motherboard.

OTOH, If I have the money to blow, I'd be all over an AMD X4, PCI-E Vidcard/Soundcard w/hdmi out, a 24" 1200P LCD, and all of the other goodies to go along with it.

me too. I can't justify paying $300 for a video card. Going to wait till it's $200, which should be this fall

Could be ATI clearing out the non-UVD cards before releasing "Revision 2." Some manufacturers might want to liquidate their stock instead of having to do a recall of the current stock.
