Looks yummy to me.... wish I had $300 right now. Do you think they will be cheaper by mid-Nov? (when HL-2 comes out)...

By the time HL2 comes out the Radeon 9900 Pro will have been at least *announced* - details are still fuzzy on when it's actually going to be "released."

But as I said before, the 9900 is the R360, which is just a higher-clocked version of the R350 (9800-series), which is a higher-clocked better-fabbed version of the R300 (9700-series). I don't see how they could call the eventual R400 anything BUT the Radeon 10000 - unless they ditch the numbers.

So to put it succinctly, I'd say this is about the price you'll see on 128MB 9800 Pros WITHOUT a rebate by the time HL2 comes out. So if you need a card now, this is a decent deal.

That is speculation (the R360 being "just" higher-clocked)

The 9800 is more than just a higher-clocked Radeon 9700. There are hundreds of reviews online. Check them out.

Yes, I'm fully aware of that, but the 9800 is, in essence, a revision of the R300 core. The fact that the R360 still has an R3xx designation means it will still be the same .15mu core design, just boosted more.

Looks like you can get a new 9800 Pro from ebay for around $300 so you won't have to deal with the rebate... I am pretty tempted. Just search "Radeon 9800 Pro".
