Visioneer OneTouch 8100 USB Scanner Problems (image quality)

Hi,

Got the Visioneer OneTouch 8100 from the Staples deal listed in the Hot Deals forum.

Hooked it up, installed the software and everything works great under XP.

However, anything I scan contains an orangish vertical bar all the way down the left side, about 1/3 of the way across the page.

Any ideas on what causes this? Did I get a bad scanner? I'm afraid of calling Visioneer's tech support, based on the horror stories at Cnet. I've tried the scanner in a different USB port, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, etc, nothing seems to work.

Any help is appreciated.

that deal really worked? did'nt you get that scanner for like 6 bucks? By the way i have no answere to you problem except that it looks like tape or something? Looks like its shot to me! Better RMA it!

Well... I hope it works! ;-)

I bought it for $99 and they allowed me to use the $15 off coupon in store. The scanner has an $80 rebate, so if all goes well final cost will be around $7 or $8.

No update on the scanner. The glass is clean and as far as I can tell there is no visible problem on the inside. Could it be one of the pickup CCD thingys is bad?

Does anyone know if staples will exchange it?

I've had good results emailing Visioneer tech support. Usually takes about 24 hours for an answer. I would send them that same link so they can see for themselves.

I would think that it's got to be the scanner itself. I can't imagine drivers or ports, etc. causing that.

Try a color scan and see if it shows up. Just for grins.

Yes, the problem is there with color scans also.

I uninstalled the drivers/software and hooked it up via paralell (instead of USB) and reinstalled everything. Problem still exists.

I'm beginning to think it's the scanner itself that is the problem. I've emailed Visioneer tech support but I'm not hoping for much.

Does anyone know if staples will exchange this for another unit?
