Visioneer 9450 error light

Good Morning Group,

I have a Visioneer 9450 scanner which was working correctly until a few days ago.

When the unit is powered on, the Power light comes on and the Ready light blinks for about 10-15 seconds, then the Error light starts flashing slowly. At this point, the computer (XPP) doesn't recognize that it is present. I have tried it on another XPP computer, as well as a Win98 computer with the same results.

Anybody have any suggestions???

I tried to contact www.visioneer.com, but anything but the home page gives some sort of error about creating an error tag file (??????????), and I don't have a clue as to what that is, so they weren't much help
 
Visioneer are usually rebranded someone else's.
Things that typically go wrong in a scanner are: Lamp burned out, motor stuck or defective.
Even more typically, people forget to undo the safety lock after transporting the unit.
