visioneer 5300 USB scanner problems

i'm running win xp pro and trying to get this "Onetouch" Visioneer 5300 USB scanner to work. Win XP recognizes the scanner in the device manager but it says there are no drivers installed, even though i've installed the drivers i got off visioneer's website a couple of times. also the scanner's software displays a little icon in my system tray that should "ready" the scanner but whenever i boot up it says "Trying to connect scanner" then "Connection failed." i've tried everything i could think of. anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but it doesn't appear that your scanner will have support for XP. They state that the driver they have is for 98/ME/2000 only. 🙁
