The people who didnt like it more than likely went to hackjobs in toronto or the new "deal" places that reuse blades for cuts and cause complications.

You shouldnt "Walmart shop" for your eyes. It sounds like a pretty "DUR DUR" statement, but some people will do anything to save a buck, then bitch about how it turns out in the end.

Edit: the doctor turning you away from traditional lasik as a "bad candidate" is a sign of a good physician. Another good sign is a doctor that wont do the procedure for someone with a -0.5 correction (often your results fall within -0.5 or +0.5 so its pointless to get the surgery). Another bad sign is the places that charge more money for more correction, nothing more gets done in the procedure for more correction that actually costs more, youre just getting raped.

The reason the "bargain bin" places are so cheap is that they reuse the blade that are used to cut the lens of the eye. The best places change the blade for EVERY CUT, the bargain bin places will do multiple cuts with the same blade, which causes tearing that can lead to complications and seriously increase the time it takes to heal.

The reason this is such an increased cost. Each blade is $290.

Agreed. I am very squeemish about my eyes. I tried contacts once, I couldn't keep my own eyes open long enough to get the lenses in. :(
Last December, however, I decided to give contact lenses a try. I opted for the new style of lenses, which I can have in for up to a month at a time, 24/7. I now wake up every day with almost perfect vision, and not a problem at all during the days. I am coming up to 31 days with the current lenses, and have not had to put any refreshing drops in at all, and they still feel just as good as they did when I first put them in.
This sounds interesting to me. What kind of lenses are those? And do they make torical versions of them (I have terrible astigmatism)?

Anyways, thanks a ton for the sharing the experience Modeps. As much as I hate the idea of someone mucking with my eyes, I hate wearing glasses and thusly fantasize all the time about having some form of laser eye correction procedure done. This was very educational.

Glad I can help guys, I'll update the story in about a week with more after my eyes have healed up a bit more and after I see my doc again so he can let me know what my before and after results are. I never bothered to find out what I was prior, I didnt really care (just knew it was bad) but now it'd be nice to know how much of an improvement it has been.

If your vision is progressively deteriating, you should NOT get any corrective surgery. My vision has been stable for about 4-5 years now. Think of it as a permanent contact lens. If your eyes degenerate by themselves, you'll have to get it done again. I'm sure your doc will go over that with you though. Before the decision, I had talked to my eye doc and he did inform me if I was a good canidate. I suggest you do the same.

I'll stick with glasses, thanks. They're really not all that inconvenient (plus they fool people into thinking I'm smart until I start talking to them :p)

The time I went to get them, they put them in, and I had to take them out, put them in, then take them out again...it took me ~45 mins to get them out due to me not being able to stick my fingers in my eyes. I can now do them within a couple of minutes (and I've only done it ~20 times so far in total)

I'm unsure of the type/name, but AFAIK they do them in torical versions (as I think they tried me on those for the first week or so, but they were very blurry). It's definitely worth a try in my opinion, ask your eye doctor about them :)

Let me check the name of them when I get home in ~3hrs

You just made me squirm so much that I'd never consider the procedure!
Thanks for the info though!

I had a bad scratch on my cornea once... After the pain of that, I can't stand any discomfort in my eyes.

This is why im terrified to get that surgery...

I also wear hard contacts... I'd need to take them out for 3 months before surgery!

I was dreading that you were going to say you didn't recommend the procedure from the way you were dogging the whole thing, only to say that you definitely recommend it. I'm thinking of having Lasik done this summer too, if it's not possible I'll probably have PRK done. Thanks for the info, I'm a bit scared now....but if results are good then I'm all for it.

Just tellin' the people the cold hard facts of what I went/am going through. People need to know! TRUTH THE ANTI DRUG. Or is that, TRUTH I'M LOVIN IT? I dont remember what TRUTH's slogan is.

Actually, the truth is that most of the discomfort (at least at first), was brought on by you not relaxing and working yourself into a lather. Do what the doctors say. When my 4 yr old gets worked up, I tell him to relax.

Sheesh.

I had regular lasik and loved it. I love not having to wear contacts or thick glasses.

Good info, Modeps. I am a bit scared to have anything done to my eyes but having crystal clear vision with no corrective lenses would be a dream come true.

I thought so at first but this subject is very interesting for me because I have been wearing glasses since I was 6 years old.

I have often wondered what it would be like to be "free" of my glasses.
