Is eye surgery safe enough yet? Why haven't you gotten it. I have the money, but I hate to risk something going wrong...

Also, what's new in contacts. What kind should I try, and what websites have 'em for good prices?

If you don't have astigmatism contacts is pretty inexpensive, about $60-70 a year. You should probably try contacts for a while first before deciding to do lasik surgery. Even if the chances of the surgery failing is low, you never know..

Try contacts. I tried the disposable type about 4 years ago. Unfortunately I found that I had to consciously blink a lot in order to keep them semi not-blurry and so had to get rid of them. Also, if you work in a dusty environment, a lot of dirt can get caught in them which forces you to constantly clean them.

if you do go with eye surgery, go get one eye done, then after it's COMPLETELY healed wait a few months then go get the second done. it will be weird wearing one contact, but the really good doctors recommend this. there is plenty of stuff that can go wrong after they do the surgery.

edit:::::will be much more expensive to do this.

My mom had the eye surgery a few years ago when it was newer and it worked really well for her. She's getting old enough now that's she's getting far-sighted, so she needs to wear glasses to correct that for reading, but other than that, she's happy she had it done.

Her eyesight was bad enough that she was legally blind before she had the surgery, too.

I recently decided to try contacts, using acuvue oasys which is a "hydrogel" contact. I like them quite a lot, 20/15 vision with them too :D

There's a contact lens you can wear overnight and take out in the morning so you can see the entire day. I've been looking into it myself.

What you are referring to is Paragon CRT. I have been on CRT for at least two years now, I love it, and would recommend looking into it.

Since starting CRT, my myopia has not worsened, i.e. my prescription has remained unchanged since the beginning, whereas before CRT I had to increase my prescription anually.
They work like any other contact, you could also wear then during the day if you forget to put them in one night. After about a day (24 hrs) of non-use, vision starts to decline.

???? I don't get it - you wear it all night and clean it in the day when you need to see? Am I missing something?

You wear it at night, and take it out and store it when you wake up. You don't have to wear them during the day.

Yeah it sounds great. If you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost (ballpark figure). And do you need to replace the lenses?

before you are able to do lasik surgery, dont you have to go without wearing contacts for a few weeks to allow your eye to return to normal shape?

Nope! Just wear the contacts while you sleep, take them off in the morning, and you're all set for the day! They work my molding the shape of your eye while you wear them, which lasts about a day. They correct my vision to 20/15

Well at my local optical place the initial office visit + cost of lenses was 600, I think.
If I remember correctly:
2 Contact lenses are 400, 200 each
The office visit was 100 per eye, so 200 there. That varies though, and is a one time fee to fit the lenses (they are custom made) I think the place I went is a bit overpriced.

And they recommend a new set of lenses every year, but they last longer. My first set lasted 1.5 years I think.

Hmm, that stuff looks interesting as hell. I need to get some new contacts myself, and I may see how much these bad boys cost.
