I bought a few early access games. Only two of them has been released - the rest are still in development years (some close to 5 at this point) after I purchased them.

I have the exact same experience. It seems that most companies don't feel any need to actually finish the game when they can sell it in 'early access' unfinished. Sometimes that is alright, when the game is in a good playable state and they just keep adding more goodness to it, other times it means that we are stuck with a unfinished game that shows a lot of potential but does not have any real gameplay in it. Unfortunately is seem that buggy sandboxes with a lot of potential but only half finished gameplay and story are the most common outcome of early access.
