Hi,

I was checking my email today and I recieved numerous porn and and unsolicited spam from companies I never visited (trust me). Nevertheless, I don't necessarily directly blame AT users, but when registering for some of the free offers from the Hot deals section it said that I had registered my email on all the website free offers that I visited! I tried the nescafe frothe, the free screws and the magazine one and they all said that my email was already used!

Then I thought back to all the porn emails about thanking me for registering and free passwords etc.

My complaint is this, don't require users to enable email visability on FS/FT because it allows enemies and just plain stupid people to spam you. I'm disabling my email right now... if someone wants my email then they have to PM me.... F@ck I'm pissed.

Ben,

This rule will not be changed because it helps prevent trolling and members getting ripped off in FS/FT. If you do not want to abide by the rules, then stay out of FS/FT.

Yeah, I agree about the trollers and all, but what does it matter about having it visible ... if they just pm the user then that'd be safer... just because its visible doesn't mean that someone can make up a fake email addy and make that visible .... the logic still doesn't seem to fit... That's why I gripe ... Just my opinion though ... please discuss if you think otherwise

Several trolls have tried to pass off someone elses heat as their own (some of which were successful). Most users on AT have their heatware name registered with the same email address they registered with AT. Cross checking these email addresses verifies that you are dealing with who you think you are. Also many users prefer to avoid the PM function and like to contact sellers/buyers via email.

I've been here at AT for nearly 2 years and at that time I was a dumb newb. heheh its funny how you guys can be lifer's in less than a year....

The Email issue has been discussed many times before. And it won't change. If you are having issues with some morons on the forums, contact the mods. That is what they are there for. I have been using Anand's Forums for almost 6 years now. Back during the bbs days. And I have NEVER had spam issues. I have spent a lot of time on FS/FT forums and others. Are you sure someone is using your Email address? I get unsolicited spam from companies I never visited too. But I can tell you one thing. Anand does NOT sell or give away our Email addresses. I visit a LOT of forums and sites what ask for my Email address. Anytime I go to those sites I give a Email address of a free site. But on these forums you have to use a viable Email address. You can have it disabled. But if you are going to do some trading or selling in FS/FT forums, it MUST be active. It's just a safety issue. You don't HAVE to use the forums if you do not agree with the rules. ;)

I've been a member here longer than 95% of the registered population, and possess an extensive trading history in the FS/T forum. My ISP's email has always been visible and I have no problems w/ SPAM.

Generate a spam handling E-Mail (hotmail, Yahoo., etc) for all places where they ask for E-Mail addresses.
That will cut down on the junk to your important accounts.
Then you can generate a seperate address that is in your profile if you choose to hang around AT for the FS/FT forum.
