I'm not talking about the Gift cards you get from the bank, but the prepaid cards that are sold at RiteAids etc.

I was sitting here thinking of how I'd get all my Christmas shopping done without having to fight the crowds and traffic. Shopping online is the best alternative of course, but I don't like to use my credit cards just anywhere, maybe I'm overly cautious, but that's just the way I am. I noticed that they have the Visa and Mastercard prepaid cards at a lot of local stores and wondered just how widely they are accepted for online purchases. Are they accepted online by all merchants who accept Visa?

Anyone have any experience using them? Know how widely they are accepted?

They basically work just like any credit/debit card. In fact, to the store, they're pretty much identical.

They work exactly the same as any Visa credit or debit card. And yes, they're accepted anywhere Visa is.

Okay, thanks guys. I just didn't want to buy one and then run into problems trying to checkout online. I guess I just choose Visa at checkout and go from there.

you may run into some cashiers that have never used them before. There is a pre-set amount (obviously) so you may need to put in extra.

The only time I received them was from Cingular (vs cash rebates), and I used them to get Amazon GCs...
