Virus Problems

I have an older computer (p3 550) running win2k and it is contantly getting hit by viruses. If it is connected to the internet (Bell Sympatico DSL), every few hours a new virus will appear. Most of them are caught and blocked by Norton antivirus (it shows a popup saying it caught a virus), but some get by it. I have all the windows and norton updates, so how can these viruses be getting on this machine if i'm not even doing anything, like opening email attachments or using filesharing and how can i stop them?

This has been happening for weeks now and i've never seen anything like it. The only explanations i can think of are either the sympatico software is very insecure or the first virus to hit, before i applyed any updates, modified my system somehow so that other viruses could get in. Any help would be much appreaciated.

You got trojans, and I don't mean rubbers.

Anyway to get rid of them without reformating? Norton Antivirus doesn't seem to be able to do anything. And yes, i have all the windows updates, though i didn't have them when this started.

Once you have been owned then you need to reformat and start over. You can use something like Moosoft Cleaner but it does not get everything. You need to repartition, format and reinstall and be patched up before you even connect to a LAN or the intraweb.
