i've had this problem 2 times already. basically what happens right now is alot of my start up (in systray) dont start up and almost all my links dont work. when I click on the quick launch tool bar, none of the shortcuts work but they point to valid files.

i used trendmicro online antivirus to scan and remove files and my computer is basically screwed right now. norton wont work. it boots up and then shuts down right away.

edit: fixed it!!! basically you copy regedit.exe and rename the copy as regedit.com. then you modify the registry

In the left panel, double-click the following:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT>exefile>shell>open>command
In the right panel, locate the registry entry:
Default
Right-click Default and select Modify to change its value.
In the Value data input box, delete the existing value and type the default value:
"%1" %*

delete the .com file and reboot.

same problem man, same problem... i cant ctrl alt delete or run msconfig, untill i ctrl alt delete this one file on my comp called filecheck.exe, see if thats the same as urs, do a quick read thru ur processes and see if thats the file u have. lemme know

If you've got a trojan, use the right tool to fix it -- Trojan Scanner. This is an online scanner that works.

Alot of virus scanners will miss or won't know what to do with a trojan.

i managed to fix it. i had to rename regedit to regedit.com. from there i used the instructions on the trend micro site to put things back to normal.

im beginning to think i need to replace NAV03 with pc cillin. thoughts?
