My computer has been acting up...the other day I Formated and Installed WinME.
Even now its still acting up, like when windows loads I get an Reg Error and it has to reboot then its fine. Today I downloaded Norton 2001 and it found a Virus called Backdoor.Subseven in my Unrealtournament.exe file. I scan the CD (Burn from a Friend) and it found the same virus on the cd. I also have a Unrealtournament.exe file in my Email from a friend, and it has the same Virus, WTF??? Does Norton think this file is a virus or isit really one. Can someone please LMK if they have had the same problem and Also maybe try running Norton to see if they get the same result.

sub7 is a famous backdoor program similar to back orifice. It basically means that the right person out there on the net can take over a lot of control on your computer.
Even more annoyingly, it replicates the hell out of itself, and will often cause shutdown problems.

do a search for it on norton's site, they'll have more info.

If it's a burn, there's a very good chance that it's infected. Reformat, install UT, but download a new no-CD patch to launch it with.

I got the same warning with NAV 2000 and the latest virus definitions. I installed UT and the latest patch, as well as a no-cd crack from gamecopyworld.com. It brought up the dir for the nocd crack's exe, NOT the original.

At this point it's pretty obvious that there's a infected nocd crack out there. I don't know if I'll use a no cd crack for quite a while now.

Hmm.. what version of UT was this? And you say from Gamecopyworld?

How does one go about making their own cd-crack for games they own? Getting my CD rom to play fair with copyright protections is almost impossible at times. The game takes 1-2 minutes to try to load, says it can't find the cd, takes another minute, and then finally loads. Wow, thanks for screwing up a game I paid for.. I surely don't have any incentive to pirate games! :)

Which AV program is good for Windows2k? Symantec seems good about not having things work right in anything recent, so any help would be appreciated.

I had this virus to. It came with the file Dl'd from GameCopyWorld.com. It was the NO CD Patch I think. Norton got rid of it for me.

I just ran a full scan with NAV, with latest av definitions, in win98 and it found sub7 in ut as well. as ut has been on my hd for months and never gave me any problems, I think the problem lies with the latest NAV definitions.

Downloading Macafee now........

<< If you are using pirated software you deserve to have viruses. >>

You obviously aren't reading all of these posts, are only have half a brain. We are NOT using pirated software, but are using a NO CD crack with Unreal Tournament so we don't have to have the CD in the drive the entire time. I PAID for my copy of UT, a hefty $50 at the time, and enjoy the game. I have a single backup copy, and do not use pirated software. None of us deserve to have virii on our machines.

I just finished scanning with MacAfee AV and it did not find a virus. So I`m quite positive that NAV is wrong here.

BTW I`m not using the normal version either, although I do not know what patch stops it from looking for the cdrom.

Edit: I was using the latest definitions for MacAfee and with Norton AV I only got the virus alert after upgrading to the latest definitions, befor I was using definitions, 20 days old.
