I know there is VirtualPC but is there a VirtualMac? I have some tutorial programs that are in .dmg format as well as some other mac software but mainly want to get at the tutorials. Any way I can run them on a PC?

Basilisk does 68K emulation so it can run MacOS 8.1 and lower.

Note that the OP said he has tutorials in the .dmg format. The .dmg format will only work with Mac OS X. The .dmg files will not work on OS 9 and below.

It's fun messing with people :)

That picture had me confused for a little bit. I thought you were running Mac OS with a Mac OS emulator. I had to study it for a while till I figured you were running Windows with the OS X skin with the OS X emulator. :)

Mine isn't that slow... about the speed of a 1.2 Ghz G3 processor. It is definitely usable.

its usable. i suspect most people using pearpc just need to do something small or want to play around with mac os x anyways.

Now run Virtual PC from OSX and then run Pear PC within Virtual PC and I'll be impressed. I doubt Pear PC would actually run from Virtual PC though:)

Ha... an emulator from within an emulator... I guess that's an easy way to reduce one's processing speed to 1/4 the total :)

Wait there's a slowdown in performance? I'm going to be running these tutorials but also Final Cut Pro, which is an editing program. I'm on a P4 2.8 with 1.5 gigs of RAM, should I not even bother trying?

No... I'm sure you can install and run FCP, but it will be SLOW. Probably equivalent to running FCP on a 300 MHz PIII, if even.

Of course there's going to be a slow down in performance. Each time the Emulator executes a n instruction it first has to convert it to an x86 instruction, thne after the PC executes that, it has to be converted back to whatever it's supposed to look like to the mac.

I meant a significant slowdown. Sheesh man, it's not like I thought about it and said "Hey, I'm gonna make a repost just to piss notfred off!" :p

Anyway, daniel, I'm not really going to be doing too much editing, just gonna use it to learn the program over summer because next year I'll be in full control of my radio/television class and want to know FCP front and back, as well as a couple others (Motion, Soundtrack, LiveType). Thanks for the help.

Methinks you'd be better off buying a $500 Mac Mini to learn on. Hell, you spent $999+ on FCP, why not get a decent computer to run it on? :)

Not quite. And if I had $500 right now it wouldn't be spent on a Mac, I can't justify it yet. I love Minis but the only way I would do it was with a gig of RAM and a superdrive. My Mini would cost a good $1300, which is half of a G5 which means I would rather just wait til I could get a G5.

Oh, and about that $999... ;)
