Virtual Resolution

Hi. Is there an easy way to force a virtual screen resolution? For example, I'd like to have a 1024 x 768 physical resolution but a 1600 x 1200 virtual desktop (that I can scroll around in). I know a long time ago, drivers came with this option. Is there a way to do it with a Geforce3 or Sis Xaber 400? Thanks.

You can do it with ATi's drivers by setting your maximum monitor specs to your physical resolution and then changing to a higher resolution.

Your request is unusual since most people accidently get this problem on ATi boards and then do everything they can to fix it.

Heey, I was just wondering how to do the exact opposite like BFG said. Right now my Radeon8500 and monitor with cat3.1 only do 1600x1200 in virtual. I've seen it do real 1600x1200 but can't seem to anymore. I know it supports it, so how do I get it to work?

Like I said before, you need to go into your driver display properties and make sure the resolution and refresh dropdown is set to the maximum your monitor supports.

Try Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Monitor and make sure that "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is unchecked...

You can have multiple desktops with nview, but I don't know if there is a way to make the mouse flow smoothly from one desktop to another or have a window split between multiple desktops.

You can use remote desktop to get to your machine if you are running terminal services, with 1600x1200 specified for the terminal services session....

Sorry to bump up an ancient thread, but how do you do that?

You need to get to the display tab of ATi's drivers, then click on your CRT, and you'll see two drop down menus that control the maximum refresh rate and resolution. If they're incorrect turn off DDC information and manually adjust them.
