Virtual PC 2007 and Linux

Here at work I use VPC for everything. I want to start learning a bit on Linux OS's and Server OS's. Anyone suggest some linux versions that work properly in VPC 2007?

Fedora Core 4 should... my school used to use FC4 in VPC to teach the Intro to Linux classes until the powers that be had the wonderful idea of creating Windows Server 2k3 and XP deployment discs that wipe the drive without asking before copying the image.

I know you said VPC... but I've been using VMware's virtual appliances... FC5, 6, and 7 all work fine... as does Ubuntu 7.10.

Ubuntu has problems with the mouse doesnt it?

I don't know... the biggest problem I've had with 'nix in VPC is screen resolutions.

Not the resolution, but the color depth, since Virtual PC only supports 16-bit colors and many installers, like Ubuntu's LiveCD run in 32-bit color depth.

One can bypass this by installing via the Alternate Intall CD and then changing the xorg.conf file via console.

At any rate, I find VMWare much better for Linux virtual boxes. I do use Virtual PC for Windows boxes.

Ubuntu and Fedora's installers worked fine... when the installation was finished and it was booting into the OS for the first time, I got a 1600x600 screen instead of 800x600... and everything on the screen was so garbled I couldn't do anything.
