Virtual NAS: RAID1 or Rsync

Dissatisfied with my Lenovo IX2-DL's performance and features, I've decided to move my media/file server to a VM. I can't decide however, if I should go with a RAID1 setup or just use rsync to copy files between two drives. I have two 5TB drives ready to go. These will just be data (no OS).

With the rsync setup I can have one drive in low power state until rsync kicks in at 4AM.

So is it better to just go with rsync when its just this type of data?

Probably not a bad idea to rsync. Will save power on the one drive, and it's less likely to become simultaneously corrupted as can happen with RAID 1.

Though if you want to save more power, perhaps you should consider getting a nice Synology unit. They work great as media servers.
