So basically i have a virtual machine running on my pc. With this virtual machine i have people connect to it via the remote desktop client built into virtual box. When people connect to this virtual machine and go on lets say the browser and search something up, it uses my houses internet connection. Is their a way i can have the virtual machine use the network of the user connecting to it? This is because it is not secure having people connect to my virtual machine and use my internet through the vm.

That works but i want the person connecting to the virtual machine to acces the internet and everything. I just don't want them to be using my internet as its not secure

hmm - not making much sense ..why are they connecting to your vm in the first place then?

The point of the vm is so they can use the faster cpu and larger amount of ram thats on the system.

Block all outgoing HTTP on VM like killerBee said. Then ask remote user configure remote desktop client so that it won't use Remote Desktop's gateway.

Open Remote Desktop Connection, Advanced Tab, Connection from anywhere, settings, then choose "Do not use RD Gateway Server" .

Then they have to use their own browser at home to surf the internet.

Of course you have to block them to reconfigure VM's firewall settings.

ahh - that makes sense, I thought he wanted them to use his machine's browser - because it was more powerful.
edit: - whoops I guess he did want them to use his browser

You want them use VM's browser to download stuff and you worried that they abuse the internet? If you worried that they download illegal stuff or visit porn sites, you don't let them use the VM in the first place! Otherwise, you have to use powerful filters that's very hard to configure.

Good point but isnt their also ways they can hack into my internet if they have access. Like they can access my router website and try to log in and stuff like that?

If you don't trust them, don't let them get in!

Sorry, I'm done.

the part about having them use their own network connection to browse the internet with your powerful browser makes no sense to me ..if they can RDP into your VM they have the power to run a browser on their own...even if you somehow got this to work it would be pretty slow for them and pointless

Yes, so is their a way that they could use the internet but have no access to my local network stuff

you could bring up the VM on it's own subnet. .does your router support VLANS?

It should i need to check. All this is making me wonder though. How do companies that host vms stop people from doing illegal stuff on their ip address or hacking in their local network?

virtual networking helps + they probably aren't using one machine running Virtualbox :)
