I use eFax.com. I get to expense the $16.95/mo so I didn't really bother shopping around for a better deal. I don't have any real complaints about the service though.
I used to use their proprietary app for opening fax documents that were emailed to me in their proprietary .efx file format -- which I'd then convert to PDF -- but they didn't have an app that ran in Linux. Now I just use their web-based inbox which will let you download a PDF copy of your fax straight away.
Used eFax at multiple companies for several years. I also have an account for personal use. Never had a problem. You can setup the faxes to go to multiple email addresses too. Sending a fax is as easy as attach it the document to an email and sending it to phonenumber@efaxsend.com. Here's a link:

The unfortunate reality is that a lot of businesses still use faxing. I have no idea why - a duplex scanner is like $350 on Amazon - but that's how it is 😛
