This country fails at being a democracy period. Corporations buy the politicians into office so that they will do their bidding. Anyone who thinks the people have a voice or that politicians represent them are out of their fucking mind.

Read my reply above. Voting is a privilege we choose to exercise if we want to. If I don't know who is running, what platform they have, or anything remotely to do with the race, then it would be not in my best interest to vote because it would not be an informed decision.
