Virginia headed for recount

Is this Florida 2000 all over? I know VA does not have the vote problems Florida had. But it looks like it will be with in a few thousand votes...

It's highly unlikely that absentee ballots will produce a CLEAR winner. By definition, it's unlikely there will be a CLEAR winner. It will just be the guy that got the most votes counted by the process.

Yeah but not all will be from the military, and not all military will vote republican. You also have to figure in the four military newspapers have called for change. Its not likely a fairly small amount of absentee ballots will have a significant impact on this race. ,

Also, last year VA has a recount, the totals moved by a mere 20 votes. So a recount doesnt mean much in VA.

thats interesting because when you examin the Map of virginia, Webb gets strong support all around norfolk. Last time I checked that was a big military area.

30,000 of the absentee ballots not counted are from Fairfax, VA

Fairfax went 60/40 for Webb

Webb is a vet, but I think the four military newspapers calling for change in Iraq will nullify any significant absentee military vote for Allen. The military is no longer following lockstep with the Republicans.

VA's last recount (for a state position) was decided by a few hundred votes, and the recount held up the original election night totals.

VA is no FL.

Norfolk and Newport News are VERY black areas, as is Portsmouth. Virginia Beach and Chesapeake are the conservative areas, and VA Bch is largest city in VA by population.

I lived 9 years of my life in that area. I know what I am talking about

What are the Allen totals for VA Bch, Chesapeake and Suffok ?

We should also be able to go back to 2000 and compare county/city votes for Allen and see where he lost votes.

Anne, I said LAST night that the Democrats would pick uo 20-25 seats.
I also thought they would not win the Senate.

So far I am 100%

Of course Senate is up in the air, as is house total.

Webb is slighly ahead in Suffolk. Allen does have the edge in VA Beach and Chesapeake, but its still close at about 52 to 47, each. Basically the indications are a significant edge for Webb among the Navy given the degree that Webb is leading especially in Norfolk. Webb also has huge leads in locations such as Hampton and Portsmouth.

hopefully we'll at least know by the end of the night whether or not control of the senate is determined by the VA race (I don't think it will be... I think the Dems will take Montanna and Missouri, Reps will win TN, and VA will simply determine whether it's 50:50 or 51:49, and in either situation, Reps will keep control)

Absentee is not jsut military. When they conduct surveys a huge chunk of lazy bastards vote absentee. I'm absentee for example, and I vote Republican. Same with my parents. They're just lazy to go to the polling station.

The majority of absentee ballots in VA will be military due to the number of major bases there.
