Virgin Mobile, LG Optimus V and LG Optimus Slider

Just picked up two phone over BF, a LG Optimus V for $49 and LG Optimus Slider for $149.

The Optimus Slider is a new phone running Android 2.3 on a 800mhz processor. It also has a hardware QWERTY keyboard and support flash.

The Optimus V is slower with a 600mhz processor and runs Android 2.2 on a 600mhz processor. Flash is not supported.

For the $100 difference, is the Slider worth it? What's everyone's thoughts?

Shrug, I know the Optimus V is a 600Mhz Qualcomm with the Adreno 200, but I'm not sure about the Optimus Slider. Just because its 800Mhz doesn't necessarily make it faster or good. Otherwise, I'm not familiar with the spec's on the Slider and I'm too lazy right now to google it. 😛

But, I'd check for updates on the Optimus V though. Several of the Optimus One variants do have Gingerbread updates. Pretty sure you'll need to be on WiFi to actually check, FYI.

Root the Optimus V & drop CM7 on it. It runs beautifully with Cyanogen Mod 7 & it will make you love your cheap phone.

I'm a Android newbie. Any sites with instructions on how to do?

i honestly do not like the blanket, hey throw cyanogen on it advice.

virgin mobile phones for the most part run a really stock android. even the motorola triumph or whatever it is they have runs almost stock android.

i used to have an optimus v and it is very fast on its own without cm7. also my brother just got a optimus slider and its an 800mhz qualcomm msm76xx series (same cpu in the V basically). so it is a little faster (though for $100 more , i don't know if its worth it). my brother only got the slider (or well i bought it for him for his birthday) because he loves keyboard phones (he had the samsung intercept before also on virgin which was horrible by the way) its also known as the LG enlighten on verizon. the V is also on a lot of other carriers (i think its the optimus S on sprint, T on tmobile, C on cricket wireless, and something else on verizon)

so yeah its not worth $100 more hardware wise, unless you want the keyboard. as much as i'm a fan of keyboards on phones but dont currently have one, $100 is like 3 -4 months of virgin mobile depending on your plan.

I would do the Motorola Triumph instead of the LG Optimus. There was a coupon code recently on techbargains.com which brought this phone down to $210 with free shipping. An unbeatable deal...

I actually owned an Optimus V. I have tried the stock rom(of course), custom FroYo roms & CM7 roms. The Optimus V ACTUALLY benefits from CM7. Improved battery life, all the features Virgin will NEVER give it, Gingerbread...It is not a "blanket" statement. It comes from experience.
The OV has a huge development scene. The two best roms on CM7 are Backside & BobZhome roms.

my daughter had the V, and when she lost it was trying to decide which one to buy. the slider seemed like too much of a cash grab, not being much of an upgrade at all for the cost. she ended up getting the htc wildfire instead of the triumph tho, 99 bucks on BF. the triumph didnt go on sale at all. the stores i was in didnt even have the slider instock or advertised, i thought that was odd.
