Been using Virgin Mobile for a little over two years now. I usually get my top-up cards from Target. For worst case scenario (I usually stock up when they have them on sale) I pay $45 - 5% red card discount + sales tax ~= $46.28 for each line. Probably not the cheapest available, but not to bad and fairly convenient.

Well now that I got my wife the iPhone, I figured I would take advantage of the $5 discount they offer through auto-pay for her line. Should be $1-2 cheaper than Target ($40 + tax), plus I only have to deal with one top-up card instead of two.

I get a confirmation letter in the mail today for the auto-pay, and it states that they are going to auto-draft "$49.61, plus any applicable taxes". Huh? I read through the terms and conditions when I signed up, plus the copy that they mailed me, and did not see any mention of taxes other than sales tax.

It's weird how they advertise this as a perk to having an iPhone, but it ends up costing more than if you just buy the top-up cards. Looks like I'll be cancelling this auto-pay and going back to my previous system...
