Violets everywhere, and my neighbor likes them

My neighbor decided several years ago that he likes wild violets. He found some and planted them in a row along his driveway. It took a while, but now there are violets all over the neighborhood. I can't keep them out of my grass or my gardens.

The only herbicide that works on them takes two applications at a specific time of the year (which is now in Michigan) and costs $40 per bottle.

While I was spraying the violets this afternoon, I found myself getting angrier and angrier. He has been asked by several neighbors to kill off his violets, but they are all over his yard now, too. He says he still likes them and is going to keep them. This year's batch is the largest ever. :|

Sorry for the rant, but I'm ticked.

Why not just cut them down in your yard when you mow your lawn every so often, or are you one of those that lets the grass grow into a jungle?

They hug the ground and kill the surrounding grass. They are a particularly aggressive plant.

I'd think that by introducing it to a new environment and not taking efforts to control them, you'd be breaking major environmental regulations

Interesting thought. They do grow wild locally, but not in town. It would be hard to prove their origian at this point anyway.

Personally, I think I'd enjoy having the violets in my yard, but since you don't, maybe Clark Pest Control can do something. I use them here, for insect and weed control, as well as fertilizing my yard and gardens. Things have never looked better.

Thanks for the tip. And by the way, if you had violets in your yard, you'd know why I want to get rid of them.

Actually, my wifes grandmother had violets in her yard way back when...they looked nice, but, may be a nuisance to take care of and control...I never had that chore...

I don't claim to be an expert on this, but there could be a significant difference between wild violets and some you would buy at a nursery.

I'm sure there is...hers were wild violets that she transplanted into the lawn...not the nursery varieties..
I like the goat idea...when you're done with it, goats make great BBQ meat...

Retaliate and find something you like. Uproot everything in your yard and plant only the stuff you want to plant. Then let your stuff spread all over his yard.
