This is really stupid, how does either violence or sex affect anyone watching tv? Who cares if a guy is shot in the head and it blows open with blood falling everywhere? REAL violence is shocking, but TV? LOL

I wont even comment on nudity... Using that as an excuse for being a raper is just lame.. Thats like a genetically fat guy blaming his fatness on Cookie adds..

If you live in America, thank you for proving my point. If not, wtf is wrong with you?

Well watching sex makes you feel like having sex, but watching someone's ear get sliced off with a razor blade just makes you queasy. The desire for sex is stronger than the disire to inflict pain. Therefore sexual imagery is more powerful than violent imagery. It's a different standard because they're different subjects. Nothing wrong with it. Quit your bitch'n.

Why the double standard? Because America is full of aggressive prudes!

Personally I think the whole "nudity is bad" attitude is just plain stupid. I like boobies.

Lack of boobs + too much violence = highest percentage of serial killers?

Au contraire. Many serial killers started with porn, moved on to child/sadistic porn, developed twisted fetishes, and then started to materialize their fantasies. Not to say that everyone that indulges in porn will turn out that way, but it is interesting to note

uh no.

porn does not make a person a serial killer. also a person who looks at porn is not necessarily going to look at child porn

In America:

Violence = OK
Nudity/Sex = unacceptable

In Europe:
Violence = unacceptable
Nudity/Sex = OK

Interestingly the Europeans have a lot less crime then America.

They have a lot less social, cultural and racial tension too. So don't try being simplistic here, OK?

The disparity in crime rate has much more to do with our "War on Drugs" and its social consequences---just to name one factor!---than the presence of violence on our TV programming.

The reason that nudity and sex are an issue is because America is a nation of many vocal prudes.

They prefer the term "conservative"

Ms Jamieson said: "Knife-carrying is all too prevalent in some communities, particularly in the west of Scotland, and has cut short and scarred too many young lives.

"In these areas police, doctors and law-abiding citizens have seen the damaging effects of swords, including samurai swords, being wielded on the streets.

"It is simply far too easy at present for these weapons to be bought and sold."

There is abosolutely NOTHING wrong with having violence, language, or nudity on television regardless of the hour. Its still up to the parents to know what their kids are watching. Because really, they'll see it anyways if they want to.

Hell, any 9 year old with uncontrolled internet can google "boobies" and find plenty of stuff.

I'd never actually done that before...

They're a bit on the small side, but they're all natural!

Don't like watching gratuitous violence either. I think both are inappropriate personally, but I wouldn't restrict access to them except to impressionable kids. (Oh, won't someone think of the children 😉 😛 )

If the violence or sexual contact somehow adds artistic value or meaning to a story, I might watch it.
(Braveheart, for instance, was highly violent and had some sexual innuendo in it, but it is one of my all time favorite movies)
(South Park, is highly violent, but it violence is put there to exxagerate meanings or for only comical portrayals: which is fine in my book)
(Schindler's List <great, great movie> )

Shows on the other hand that show violence or sex for no other reason than to attract ratings is useless and not worth my time IMO, but feel free to degrade your mind with junk if you want (it isn't my personal business to intrude on that).

I played violent video games and watched violent movies as a child. I turned out fine (as I firmly believe it doesn't affect anything), but what if I grew up watching porn? I think I'd be a little fcked up.

I disagree - exposure to violence desensitizes you to it. Because of that, you are more likely to act out violently through road rage, screaming and shouting at fellow humans, turning you back when witnessing violence to others, etc....

Had you been exposed to porn growing up, then you would have been desensitized to that too.

American society today is unbelievably accepting of violence. From seeing it in our sports, our schools, our streets and our homes - it has gotten pretty unacceptable.
