"Van Harten agreed with Iovinelli the more than six months Crowchief had spent behind bars, which he equated to a 9 1/2-month sentence, was sufficient jail time for Crowchief.

He placed the city woman on 12 months probation and ordered her to get psychological and psychiatric counselling as well as counselling for substance abuse.

She must also abstain from consuming intoxicating substances and is prohibited from going to any business whose principal sale is alcohol."

And you think the problem is that she didn't get charged with a hate crime?

I don't personally agree with hate crimes but if you are going to have them then you should dole them out equally. I can't imagine that if the situation was reversed that it wouldn't be considered a hate crime.

Wait, Indian? She's a Native American, ain't she? Indians come from a completely different place.

And ya seem to be having a hard time 'ere, Shakers. Victor's arguing that it's an issue of inebriated violence, as was ruled, and not a racially motivated hate crime. In other words, 'tis the liquor talking.

in vino veritas

Absent hate crimes placing wood in the shape of a cross on someone's lawn and lighting it, is just illegal disposal of refuse. (In some municipalities)

So then it's a hateful disposal of refuse? Why not make up a new crime called something like "aggravated disposal of refuse" that doesn't depend on knowing the demographics of the parties involved? A lot of people hate their ex-significant others, should crimes against them be labeled a 'hate crime' too or is that just for the when it's a pet class of the progressive movement?

I doubt it would have been considered a hate crime in a reverse situation. Based on the info I've seen I have no issue with the judge's decision. The woman served 6 months in jail and will hopefully get some needed help with her addiction and mental issues.

Unfortunately what's more likely, though, is that she'll end up drinking and/or drugging herself to death in a couple of years.

Yeah, well evidently Canada doesn't seem to be troubled bringing hate crime charges against other folks who were drinking and can use their lack of sobriety as a defense, see R. v. Peers and Wilson at the link below. Of course it's hard to take you seriously as a nation when you don't even enjoy robust freedom of speech laws and can be sentenced merely for "creating and distributing pamphlets that describe Muslims as dangerous people capable of terrorism, great cruelty and that they are intolerant of other faiths."

You can paraphrase this story with simply:

"This is why racism still exists"

or segregation... whatever tickles your fancy.

If everyone see's that you defend thugs, maybe the problem isn't with those reading your posts.

Thugs! Boo!

Edit: you're more than welcome to show how I've been 'defending' this person. She was in jail for 6 months and, based on the information available, that seems an appropriate term of incarceration for what happened.

Maybe the term "White People" is a racist term. What exactly is white anyway?

Melanin = nobility. The more you have, the better you are as a human being. Caucasians have the least, thus, are the blame of all society's ills for being barbaric monsters.

...right, 'progressives'? :sneaky:

This has been true for some time. Pointing it out always has the same results.

Sounds like a hate crime to me, and sounds like the judge made a poor decision.

Any further attempts to ascertain meaning from this anecdote are pointless and illogical.

Knowing the systemic racism she faces everyday I suspect she does hate white people.
