Violation: Your vehicle is illegally parked

The girlfriend and I just got back from picking up her car which we left in the bar parking lot last night. Upon arrival she has a violation sticker on her car stating that the car is illegally parked and her license plate number has been recorded for future reference. This was a one time warning, but next time the vehicle will be towed.

I would like to personally thank the bar owner(s) into encouraging driving under the influence. There were at least 20 cars which were left in the parking lot last night by those not willing to take the risk of operating a vehicle.

Have you heard of something called "designated driver"?

We were not too drunk to drive. Either one of us could have driven, but neither one of us was willing to take the risk.

I agree w/ the irony situation, but, really--avoid the whole bar situation and problem solved. And at least they gave a warning.

did they have a sign up about when you can park / when they start towing? If not then they can tow the car but they can't charge for it of course you still would have to find a way to get your money or car back. If they did have a sign then don't go there.

Well damn, that sucks. I've left my cars at bars and clubs quite a few times, and never got a warning.

Should've thought of that before you go into a bar and get liquored up. It's not like you made that decision when you were drunk.. you made it while you were still sober.

So you expect the bar to double as free storage for your car? Next time when you go to the bar

A) Take a cab there
B) Designated Driver

simple as that

Hey dumbass, not every place will tow you if you leave your car there overnight. Sometimes sh1t happens. All the times i got too drunk and left my vehicles overnight, i never planned it. You go to a club, and see some friends and drink one too many. Or you just get carried away and didn't realize how much you've drunk. I don't give it a second thought about leaving my car behind, since i've never run into a place that gave me grief for doing it.

I hate to say it Mike, but one of you should have kept from drinking if you wanted to drive home, good call on not driving though, I agree it is a MUCH better idea to have just left the car there. Some guy almost nailed me at around 3am yesterday, and I saw the red and blue chasing after him not 10seconds later, it was great heh. At any rate, glad you both got home safely and it is only a warning. I saw some guy roll up outside the dorm a few nights ago peel out and park halfway in two handicapped spots, if he would have parked on the grass it would have been a $20 ticket, if he would have left it in the middle of the street in the parking lot it owuld have been $20 but in the handicapped spot...$250 lol. It was a BMW tho, so I guess he doesn't care heh.

What the hell is the difference how they got home, as long as a drunk wasn't driving?

That's not the point, he didn't even plan on doing things the right way. He went, got liquored up "oops, I shouldn't drive", he got himself home safely (good job, btw!), but you can't just expect the bar to act as a parking lot overnight, so plan on leaving it behind, or having someone who can operate it for you.

Guess you've never been to a bar? Most responsible bartenders will actively stop you from driving and certainly allow you to leave your vehicle behind if you're unable to drive it.

I feel that what minendo did was very responsible. If he would have driven home, you all woulda gave him stuff about that too. I'd take it up with the bar.

Damn you people make huge assumptions. Neither one of us was drunk. Both of us had been drinking, but why risk it? We had planned on driving home, but with the large number of cars and people out and around (home football game yesterday) why bother taking the risk. Next time I'll take your wonderful recommendation of taking a cab as long as someone forwards me the $30-40 it will cost.

Maybe you could try to read the question again, or I could re-type it real slow for you.

They were smart enough not to drive drunk.
Does it really matter if they took a bus home? Or a cab? Or walked? Or had a sober friend drive them?
