The front of our home is half vinyl siding and half brick. Does anyone know anything about replacing vinyl siding with brick? Is it cost-prohibitive, or even possible? The house is 3 years old.

You can see the front of the house in the background of this picture.

Depending on the foundation underneath the vinyl siding, you may not have enough of ledge to support the brick (ie, no brickledge). Although, the foundation is probably the same around the entire perimeter, as it wouldn't be feasible to have several different foundation widths depending on finish.

The hardest part will probably be finding matching brick, but the existing brick seems to be a fairly common style. Also, with the house only being 3 years old, the existing brick probably hasn't experienced much fading at this point.

Thanks. I'll check about the ledge (assuming it's something that can be eyeballed.)

Bump for the working class.

Not worth the trouble.

Your also gonna have problems around the windows and front door. Brick is gonna stick out about 3 - 4" farther than the vinyl siding.

You don't know whats underneath the vinyl siding so you may have to install or change the uderlayment or sheathing.

You will never match the brick. You can get close but it will still be noticeable.

Matching the brick could be a PITA.

IMO, you will not get enough value of it to do the job...

if you have cash to throw around...go for it:)

Actually, the brickledge is going to be below the ground. You should be able to dig down 12-18" and see it.

Alternatively, do you have foundation plans for the house?
