Amirite or am I right?

After watching a video just now, I came to the realization that when I see a Vimeo link, I tend to click it to see what it's all about. :\

They seem to have higher quality content, but paradoxically, that makes me less inclined to click, unless the poster has given an intriguing description. I'm not big on video, so quality isn't a feature. I like the quick lulz and cute kitties of Youtube, rather than the serious art of Vimeo.

The problem I have is less options for quality then youtube plus the video lags where if I hit pause it still plays for a few seconds and the sound gets messed up unlike youtube where it stops right away.

Vimeo tends to attract a high brow artistic crowd. The content is mostly art house, concept pieces, photo essays/camsots, and documentaries. Plus they only let you upload a maximum of 500mb per week with a basic account.

YouTube is all encompassing with it's content, from high brow to lowest common denominator. It's easy to produce a show and quickly gain traction, or just shoot some vids to share with friends and family. The downside being poor performance and the copyright police constantly trolling it for any possible infringement no matter how minute.

Blip has sort of become the go to for serious producers. Mostly due to their 50/50 advertising revenue sharing. The got a big boost when ThatGuyWithTheGlasses moved all their shows over to the platform.

Has Youtube become the Myspace of video sites now? As in they are ready for some contender to swoop in?

I just go to Youtube when I'm looking up a video or quickly sharing something. I don't browse it as much anymore, though I've never really spent a ton of time just looking at random stuff. Well, except when hopping from one song to another.

Paradoxically, Vimeo is one of the few video sites not blocked at my employer. Therefore, we spend some free time browsing on it. The funny thing is, the most mundane searches frequently bring up some kind of naughty videos.

But I agree about the high-brow artistic crowd bend.

Youtube is the "apple" of video sites, it's what everyone knows, what the media always talks about, and just what you always see posted everywhere. Yet there are so many other options like Vimeo, and they arn't naggy or annoying like youtube, and they don't do weird crap with their network that causes lot of weird slowness issues for everyone. My biggest annoyance with youtube is how they seem to redo their layout like every month and have so many annoying javascript inline popups. Stahp it!
