Vikings' Mike Tice should be fired

He has allowed his team a late season tailspin 2 years in a row. I can't imatige a Belichick or a Cowher type coach allowing this. He tries to be best buddies with his players instead of a coach with discipline. He claimed he could handle Randy, we all see how that went. The only thing that saved his job was a weak NFC and one great game vs a GB team where Favre had an off day.

He was not ready for this weeks game. The team had no passion, it's like they were happy enough to beat GB and just figured, what the heck, we did good enough. The series that put the game away was when it was 21-7. It's 3rd down on the Philly 3. This was bascially 4 down territory. Instead of trying to punch it through or using Culpeppers huge body to rush around on a boot leg, they attempt some lame-ass pass that goes incomplete and then totally fudge up a fake field goal! Why try to get cute Tice! Horrible, Horrible play calling and don't blame any O-coordinator, in a big game like this you should make the big play calls. Vikes were deflated after this and never threatened again.

I don't totally agree with you. Not a huge Vikes fan (Seahawks, now talk about a team that should fire their coach!) but I do like their style of play and I watched about 8 of their games this season. I think that Tice did a pretty good job of dealing with the circumstances. He is a good coach that hasen't been able to prove himself. The vikes should fire their defensive coordinator before tice. That guy let many leads go this season.

Tice has done a fairly good job with a team that is very streaky and has had quite a few roster problems. The defence hasn't been good in Minnesota for a long time, and although the offence gets noticed the most the defence has made progress and Tice's work ethic I think is good. Your description of him just trying to be friends with the team is a bit much imo, yes he tries to get a long with the team, but it doesn't lower the ammount of work he expects from them, its just a different method.

I think tice has done a decent job, and I do think he deserves another year. He needs to work on the defence again in the draft, and hopefully work on the players moods for next season. The vikings play almost entirely on emotion and as soon as another team takes the lead you can visably see a difference in how the players play.

Just my 2cents.

No coach is going to help that team with the problems you mentioned. Well, maybe bobby knight. But it would take him some time to learn the right sport.

It is his job to establish the circumstances. I suppose I don't know much about their general manager and their player acquisition strategy, but he has let his team become poisoned by Moss.

Ya, and that was one of his main "selling points" when he wanted the head coaching job. He took over for Denny Green who was sick of Moss, and ended up getting canned. We see how well Tice did. Sure, I blame a lot on Moss too, b/c Green was a great coach and now Tice tried to be his buddy and take more of a respect role, hoping Moss would respect him, like him, and want to play hard for him. It didn't work out. I guess only gettting $1 million or less a year can be to your benefit though b/c they don't want to fire you and have to pay a guy 3x that.

Also: Culpepper and Birk need to kick Randy's ass. You read the old school stories where teams took care of issues themselves. For example, Randy walks off the field and the game isn't over, a couple players take issue with it in the locker room. Randy comes out with a band aid or two on says he slipped and that's it. I would really like to see Culpepper step it up and try to become the centerpiece instead of allowing Moss to dictate things.

I think Tice will be back, but I have to say that was one of the worst game plans I have seen in my life.

I mean, on the trick field goal when Moss walked off of the field, and nobody could even call time out.

As a Packers fan, I don't know what the Vikings see in Tice. He should've been fired a LONG time ago. A team with Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper not even able to make it into the playoffs until this year? Due to a horrible NFC as well.

With the talent the Vikings have they should have done much better (especially in the NFC). I blame it on coaching and team unity--which ultimately stems from coaching. Tice needs to control this, or get the axe.

Yup, but you always hear "Well Tice only makes under a million this year", or "the entire coaching staff only makes $2.6 million total which is far less than a majority of head coaches". I think we all see how well it is paying off to dig into the bargain bin for coaches. It seems as though it's like most things in life, you get what you pay for. Unless Tice gets in the playoffs and avoids a late season bomb he'll be gone.

It's a good thing he walked off, because the touchdown wouldn't have counted anyway -- there were too many men on the field. You call a timeout and the surprise is ruined, and you have to settle for 3.

I agree it would have ruined the surprise but at that point, half the players didn't know it was a fake and half did. Tice was on the sidelines looking confused himself unsure of what to do. He should have sucked it up, called a time out and took the 3 points or at least got everyone on the same page. The mere fact that the confusion even existed means someone (most likely the coaching) did NOT explain very well what has supposed to happen.

True, he tried to call a timeout, but to no avail.

That all depends on if Red is looking to keep the team or not, since he has owned the team there has been constant speculation that he is trying to sell them again since the move isn't going over well. Keeping Tice means that he has to spend less money. And yes a winning team would be easier to sell but as long as there is interest does it make that much of a difference.
