I'm researching these, there seems to be a lot of info on the 20" and less so on the 22". I know most people prefer the extra resolution and finer dot pitch, but honestly I'd prefer a little more size and larger text myself.

However, are they the same type of panel, etc besides the size? I read somewhere saying that the 20" was a P-MVA (?) whereas the 22" was a TN?

I'd like the size, but I really want fixed aspect ratio scaling to work through the video card drivers of the monitor. Are some monitors unable to do this, or is it entirely a function of the video card? (I know some monitors have the option built into the OSD, but most do not, none in my pricerange)

The VX22 uses a TN panel (6-bit), while the VX2025WM is a true 8-bit P-MVA (2035 however is a TN). NVIDIA cards can do fixed aspect ratio scaling, while I do not believe ATI ones can.

Thanks for the info xtknight. Should it matter what kind of panel I get with regards to the graphics card? What I mean is, if you have an nvidia card and it can do fixed aspect ratio scaling on monitor A, does that mean the same card and driver will work on monitor B? Or are there some instances where the monitor will ignore the video card no matter what?

It can do fixed aspect ratio scaling on any LCD connected to it. The LCD has no bearing on how the GPU decides to output its signal. There is no communication at all between the GPU and monitor as far as scaling goes. One just assumes the role, usually the GPU, and if you tell the GPU not to scale it outputs a smaller image, causing the monitor to assume the role.

For the record, I love me VG2230WM. Had it for about 45 now. Used for gaming, productivity, movies.

Thanks for the opinions and info guys. I picked up the vx2235wm. I can't get get ATI aspect ratio scaling to work (still scales to full screen with stretching) but I couldn't get it to work before. I'm thinking of making the jump to either a 8800gts 320mb or 640mb because I'm hearing the XP drivers have finally fixed the scaling.

Anyone played system shock 2 with a 8800gts on XP?

What did you pay for your vx2235wm? I'm debating on getting a 22" for my next build. Looking at the vx2235wm and the LG L2226wt as well as some others. Coupled with a 8800GTS 640 card.

I like this monitor compared to my old va2012wb...which also was very good for me. Both had a little backlight bleeding, however once I turned the brightness down from 100% (which was to bight anyway) the problem diminished greatly. It feels huge compared to the 20" for some reason. The response time is suppose to be better, although I never really had a problem with the 8ms on my last one. The viewing angles...seem better. I can't be sure on that one, and they still aren't fantastic...but the va2012wb had pretty terrible vertical viewing angles and this one seems more tolerant.

The things I don't like about it are the glossy finish around the bezel, I find its reflections a bit distracting. I suspect I'll get used to that. The displays buttons are also pretty bad. They still feel kind of cheap like my previous panel, but now they're sunken in and kind of hard to press. That might be a feature for all I know. Neither one of these things are a deal breaker, since I hardly use the controls anyway.
