I got one from my local Costco for almost a month. Here is my opinion:
It is a great monitor for those looking for a bigger view and a great value too. However for critical users, not much beyond that. First impression: 22 inch is very comfortable and beautiful (of course I wouldn't mind 24), no dead pixels, viewing angles narrow but probably average. Text extremely sharp so it's a good match for those doing a lot of browsing or coding.
It starts to bother me with DVD playback. Dark is blatantly not there (more like gray), changing the mode from standard to cinematic helps but overall it suffers from lack of contrast, giving a terrible washed-out look. In the menu I swung the contrast control all the way to one end but same problem persisted. Regarding color accuracy, the screen went darker after color calibration (factory default is quite off). But even now, images look bland, just sorta ok looking. I say this because my other Viewsonic vx2025wm is NOTICEABLY better in this regard. Strange that they are both from the same company and model# are similar. The 20 inch model also needs a color calibration, but renders vibrant colors and never had a problem handling true darkness in video. I also fancied a slight chopiness playing game (just the F.E.A.R demo stuff), in spite of the 5ms spec. I'm not sure since after a week, I probably got used to it and no longer had any issues.
The appearance is ok: i had dreaded the shiny finish and it was the Viewsonic name made me buy it. It is not all that bad now. The buttons are a pain, they are narrow and behind the front bevel. you are never sure if you pressed it. The panel can be only tilted like 10 degrees, which I don't mind.
I was excited to get a 22 for the same I paid two years ago for a 19 non-widescreen. I have done more research since my new purchase. Turns out there is much more to LCD choices other than size. All 22 inch LCDs are king of mediocre, and Viewsonic is probably the better one. I might consider a smaller panel with more class, since a LCD can get many years of good use. However even that has to go out the price range.
