So my 930SB died on me the other day. I thought, to hell with it, I'll get an LCD, since CRTs are on the way out and CRT quality control seems to have declined as well. (The monitor was 35 days old!) Anyway, bought a VP171B. So far, it's an awesome LCD. I hooked it up via DVI to my 9800XT, 60hz.

The text is crisp, Call of Duty/UT 2004 look and run great. Still, are there any settings you all recommend? As I mentioned in a previous post, the greyscale, while very good, isnt perfect, as light gray can sometimes take on this odd bumpy appearance. It's only really noticeable up close, but I was curious if other users had some suggestions on how to improve that. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks! :D

(Oh, and before someone asks why I didn't exchange the broken 930SB for a replacement...I called NEC with the problem, and was told that they were completely out of 930SBs AND 2111s. They had no idea when additional refurbs would arrive. Suffice to say, a complete lack of replacement models seems to indicate that I might not be the only chap having problems. Too bad, it was an awesome monitor. ;))

LOL. I have one. I took it out of the box and plugged in the DVI cable and haven't touched it. I don't want extra software running, etc.

Color is too blue though. I have some web projects coming up, so I'll need to break down and install the software. I plan to borrow a pantone booklet and just make some basic colors match.

And what you notice with greys is the "screen door" effect that plagues ALL LCDs up close. The dot pitch is just still too big to eradicate that flaw. I do NOT notice it unless I'm looking very closely and I have really good eyes...20/15 last time I was checked. I also notice it less with non-native resolutions for some reason.

Heh...well I'm glad to see that I am not the only one. I thought, "maybe I should reconnect the DVI cable, reinstall drivers, etc." I haven't noticed any excessive blue tint. I know you mentioned that you didn't make any changes, but is the color temp. possibly set to 9300k? All of my old CRTs were always set to 9300k, but I kept 6500k for this LCD. 9300k is too blue, and anything lower than 6500k too red.

Aside from a greyscale that could use some improvement, this LCD is an excellent piece of equipment. Color and contrast are great, text is sharp, and ghosting is either unnoticeable or barely there.
