My brother has an Viewsonic VP171B, and today we found a problem. Some time ago we adjusted settings in the OSD, and today he was going to do some more adjusting of the settings, but for some reason he can not access the OSD. No matter what of the four buttons we press, the OSD does not appear. Power on/off button works just fine.

Any clues to why? is the monitor broken? or have it somehow been locked?

Yeah, there's a lock function. Check the manual. In fact, the power button can be locked via software too.

You press/hold the menu button and the power button for 10 sec to unlock it I think, but check the manual or online PDF manual.

We have checked the manual, but it seems it does not help to do what the manual says.

NVIDIA direct adjustment in ForceWare control panel, softMCCS, any other software that uses i2c over DDC on the video card to control the monitor.

T101: Try going into where you normally configure AA/AF etc (ForceWare control panel), and see if you find direct adjustment in list at the left there anywhere. You may need to install Coolbits (small reg hack that enables extra options). If you can't find an unlock menu button on there (unlock power button is irrelevant), then a factory reset will fix it. Before you do that, just record your brightness and contrast which is in the same area, and after the factory reset, set the brightness/contrast back to what it was. Then you're back in business.

Thank you for the information. It did not help, but it is still appreciated. I just called Viewsonic support, and they believed it to be broken, so they have sent a replacement, which should be bere in one or two days. Shipment are free. So I have to say that viewsonic has a very good warranty support in that respect.

So it seems. Kind of lucky it happened when it did, because it is less than a month left before the warranty on that display is running out.

Not in my experience at least. They haven't responded to any of the three of my e-mails. Basically just inquires as to panel technology but also a problem, still unsolved, about the VP930b not inputting 720p at all. I don't care enough to go through their call system about it though.

Yeah, in the past, I have sent them emails, and they never reply. You have to actually call them in order to get an answer.
