This isn't as hot as $243.56 from Dell but it's still a decent price for an LCD.

$439.95 ViewSonic SG150 from NECXDirect.com (Gateway)
-$30 off $249 coupon expires 9/9/2001
-$100 rebate
======================================
$309.95 plus shipping & tax

Reviews:
ePinions.com 12 reviews rate this 100% recommended
CNET.com 42 votes give this a 93% recommended rate
Amazon.com 3 mediocre reviews

Several other reviews can be found using a search engine like Google.com.

Maybe one of you can help solve my dilemma.
I'm considering returning my Dell Dimension 4100 and beautiful 19" Dell P991 monitor. I'm only having problems with the system, not the monitor. Bearing in mind that I'm not a gamer (so please refrain from using the word ghosting) would this LCD be a decent replacement for my Dell P991 which is a 19" FD Trinitron monitor? There are several benefits to owning a LCD, the only downside is the viewable screen size is considerably smaller on the LCD. Please post here or PM me if you have any comments regarding this.

i got in on the Samsung 570V deal and got the monitor about a week ago. So far, it's been real nice compared to my old 17. Even after hours of use, my eyes are still not strained as they used to be. Since I never had a 19, i can't really tell you how bad the step down will be...

Rebate WILL NOT work!! This deal is dead...

Rebate now specifically states valid at Retail stores only:

Rebates restricted to purchase from "participating retailers" or "authorized retailers and resellers" are valid only on purchases of the applicable product from the following:

USA Retail Locations:

Best Buy
CompUSA
Fry's Electronics
MicroCenter
Office Depot

If you can get one of the above stores to pricematch Gateway's price, then you might have a deal, otherwise THIS DEAL IS DEAD!

ZenMan - Thanks for the info. Can anyone find a generic rebate form on the Internet?

All the ones I have found so far expired on 8/31/2001.

RossMan, I dealt extensively with Viewsonic regarding the payment of the $100 Rebate for all of us that purchased monitors though DELL.

Apparently, beginning 7/1/2001 it was Viewsonic's intention to give Internet resellers a break on their price for the monitor instead of including them in any mail-in rebate promotions. However, since their rebate website and form were ambigiuos as to whether DELL was a participating retailer we were able to convince them to pay us the $100 rebate. Viewsonic has since updated their web-site and changed the language on the rebate form to make it clearer as to where you can purchase a monitor and still receive a rebate. I'm certain that if you purchased a monitor from Gateway or Dell you wouldn't receive a rebate now.

So, in answer to your question, I'm pretty certain there won't be any generic rebate forms -- that the current rebates offered by Viewsonic will only be paid if a monitor is purchased from Best Buy, CompUSA, Fry's, MicroCenter, & Office Depot.

Good luck finding a store to price match to Gateway, or finding an equivalent LCD monitor....

I love my Viewsonic!

yeah, i noticed that the viewsonicrebates.com website doesnt even list the vg150 lcd monitor for a rebate. and the one at best buy has the bestbuy logo written all over it. maybe their just releasing the rebate into to the participating retailers to clear up any confusion even though on the rebate that bestbuy has, it really doesnt mention specific retailers that are valid.

i wouldnt want to take the chance to buy somewhere else and mail in the bestbuy rebate (are there any other websites that list this rebate other than bestbuy that doesnt have the stores logo written all over it?).

im surprised since the dell incident, they didnt cover their butts and put in fine print which retailers are participating in the rebate.... anyone wanna risk it?
