Viewsonic VA720

A friend of mine is looking at LCDs and asked me what I knew about the Viewsonic VA720, apparently he had gone down to best buy and liked what he saw.

I figured I come on here and ask any of you if you've had experience with that model, I know Viewsonic in general makes pretty good quality LCDs but I've never heard of this model before.

Their website specs look pretty good but I'm a little worried that they dont have a refresh rate listed... he should be looking for an lcd with 25ms refresh rate correct? I couldn't find anything on the refresh rate so if anyone knows or could give a look see to try and find it I would be appreciative. So far I haven't been able to find one review on it which kind of worries me also...

I looked at the Viewsonic VA series and said, uh-uh. The brightness and contrast ratio were not good enough. But! They have a new model that Best Buy does not have (Mostly all they show are the cheapest models) - that is the VX series. There are two sizes - the smaller one, the VX-500 is at Newegg for $459. I got two of the VX-900s from Newegg - they are 19-inch and beat anything I saw at Best Buy including Samsung. Check it out.

That VX700 looks nice, I keep trying to tell him to order online... I personally order almost everything from Newegg the prices are so much better then compusa, best buy etc but he doesn't feel online ordering is safe

On a second glance the brightness of the VX700 isnt any higher then the VA720... the contrast ratio is better though, 550:1 compared to the VA720's 450:1.

My real concern for his decision is the refresh delay though because he is a pretty avid gamer.

The VA series is analog, has weak viewing angles and is generally the budget panel. A few have complained about them as fairly horrible for gaming. You would be better off with a CRT for the money.

The VX series incorporates modern LCD design features, importantly a 25ms response time and digital input. I have not seen one in the flesh, but have nothing but praise for my VG series LCD.
