viewsonic VA1912w or samsung 940BW

not sure about the Samsung but I just bought the va1912wb and I like it alot. Can't wait till my 7600GT comes and I can game on it.

saw them both when i was in my local computer shop and they both seemed really really good, i wasnt really looking in depth or anything but what i saw i liked.

I bought the Viewsonic va1912wb and really like it. Like you said, I can't find reviews on the samsung. Anyway I got mine for $199 after a 50 rebate at Staples. I believe CompUSA still has it for that price. GREAT MONITOR

I dont know if your still interested but i bought the samsung one back in July and love it. The max resolution is only 1440x900 and its not a "true" widescreen aspect. Most widescreen monitors, like this one, are 16.10 aspect vs the the true widescreen 16.9. It offers some good advanced settings, including the magic color which can be weird to get use to at first. After 5 minutes unless your looking at colors that are already bright you dont really notice. I havent checked out the viewsonic one but if your going to be using the monitor for gaming then your going to want one with low response and the samsung monitor has 4ms, standard for monitors that price is 8ms.

Overall i would give the 940bw a 4.5/5.

The only thing that I do not like is that the provided stand is not height adjustable. You can change the angle but if you got it a little too high, as i do, you have to raise your chair. It also looks great in digital mode, make sure to use if you have DVI on your video card. Although it does not say on samsungs site or the box, it does come with a DVI cable.

Is the 500:1 contrast ratio on the Samsung important?

Where I work, we sell a 19" Sceptre LCD monitor that is priced much higher than the Samsung. It has a much better contrast ratio, 800:1, but a slower response time, 8ms.

Also, is the widescreen aspect ratio really better than standard? I know you get more pixels on the screen, but comparing the ratios, teh Samsung has 124 fewer pixels horizontally than the Sceptre at maximum resolution.

if anyone knows where the silver samsung (940bw) is available let me know. it supposedly has height adjustments unlike the black version.
